For us who love metal, It's been kinda hard to deal with people, why?, well we live in a society which listens to pop music (at least most people hear that genre), I don't know why. Some of them tell me "Pop music has very nice lyrics", c'mon!!, metal has the best lyrics I ever heard, then they add "Well but the metal music it's very wild, it's like they don't care what are they playing", I almost fainted when i heard that bullshit. Let me tell ya', metal music it's very similar to the classical music, it's just that metal musica has a different tempo. So metal music's one of the most complex genres on Earth. In some way we're lucky, we're a small group, we do care about what we hear, we hate hearing always the same topic in a song (in pop's case, love). We want to hear stories, we want to know about othe countries way of life though their music. So please, I'm begging you, don't let common people hear our music, it's all we have, it's our identity.

Uh. Okay, then.

I don't have any trouble listening to metal. Aside from one friend I have accusing me of being "gothic" every now and then, just to annoy me, I face absolutely no scrutiny about listening to the music. I consider metal to be a better form of music than most others (due to the talent of most artists, especially when it comes to songwriting), but I don't always rub it in peoples' faces. If they're willing to expand their horizons, I'll certainly help them out, but I'm not one to gloat.

Perception is reality. The rest of the folks hear what the media covers, and to be honest there are some bands, their lyrics is totally absurd for example " KILLING YOR MAMA AND F**K THE CORPSE" which is very sickening I think. On the other side, there are tons of bands who rulz and their lyrics rocks. Metal was given a bad image, and we have to carry the burden for the rest of our lives. Well the reason "pop" music is called that is BECAUSE it is popular and in fact most people listen to it, it also happens most people are morons, so let them be morons and enjoy the gift of metal. I'm met with surprise when I confess I listen to Metal because I'm told I have a "clean-cut" image. pfft. Just follow these wise words from Risky Business "Fuck it. Just say it, it gives you freedom... Fuck it".

You make to big deal out of this. First off, there isnt a burden. I dont have any idea how being criticized for liking metal isnt just absolutely enjoyable, I mean, its an invtation to defend metal, and insult the moron at the same time. Only idiots rag on metal. Im not saying if you dont listen to metal you are an idiot, but generally, the people who talk "shit" on metal are in fact idiots. And about it being our identity, you are absoluetely right. And I do think it is our job to make sure we dont expose the wrong type of people to metal. If a total douche asks to borrow one of your maiden cds, say "fuck you". But be careful not to discriminate against good people, who wouldnt hurt anything by joining our mighty legions. It wont do anything but educate one more person. Metal / heavy rock, to me isn't just about music, its like a way of life. Monday of this week I brought a new leather jacket because my old one was falling apart. I'm 39 in march and still dress like its 1980. I wont talk to anyone regarding music unless they are on the same wave length. So if someone talking about music I genrally know straight away if they know what they are talking about. Lets face it when you take a look at me, you know srtaight away what music i'm into. what ever music people listen to they know

And there is one, right [a href=\'http://forum.maidenfans.com/index.php?showtopic=4663\' target=\'_blank\']here[/a]. [!--emo&:)--]/smile.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'smile.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

Not a bad post, though. I definitely agree about the "more than just music" comment. Although I don't wear tight jeans or leather jackets or anything of the sort, people generally can tell what music I listen to, if not from looking from me. Of course, in a few months when my hair manages to actually grow to something I could call "long" (read: seven or so inches), it'll become a little more apparent. I have adopted a bit of death metal fashion over a year or two, though, such as baggy (but not excessively so) jeans and darker clothing.

The problem with being on vacation is that sometimes I don't see all the new threads, so please forgive my delay in responding to this one. [!--emo&:D--]/biggrin.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'biggrin.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

I personally have rarely had this problem. First, I don't allow my love for metal to completely define my personality - so if I meet someone who doesn't like metal, I still can find common ground with them in another area. Second, I listen to much more than just metal, including the pop music that others might vilify pointlessly. Third, I always remember that my preference for metal is just an opinion, not a fact which everyone else must agree with.

NO. This is just plain wrong. There's a lot more to classical music than just tempo. In fact, I can think of many fast classical pieces whose tempos are as fast as any metal I've ever heard. Classical music has specific structural forms and harmonic rules which no metal band has ever followed. Classical music also has a very wide variety; Bach is as different from Beethoven as the Beatles are from Iron Maiden. Please, learn some facts about classical music before inserting foot in mouth.

First he complains that not enough people listen to metal, then he says not to share it. And the way he throws in egoism with it is just ridiculous. The "commom people"?!? He might as well pretend he's a king and talk about peasants.

It seems we get these type of threads far too often. Teenagers who think they know everything come here with closed minds and complain that society doesn't like them. Well, it's hard to like people who always think that the rest of the world is stupid and act on that belief instead of trying to understand what makes other people different. So for those who find themselves agreeing with the person who started this thread, please be sure you've got a healthy attitude in the first place. Here's a suggested New Year's resolution for you:
I will continue to listen to metal and politely promote metal to non-metalheads, but I will also open my mind to other types of music and points of view and accept that people have a right not to share my opinions.

Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed or something SMX? If, as you say the poster is just an angst teenager (and there are quite a few in this board) you shouldn't be so hard on him. I was there, you were there and Mav is still there. And like any other growing pain it fades away and you realize how stupid you really were, so give him a break, EDUCATE him don't CHEW HIM OUT. In other words you criticize his ignorance without using constructive criticism.

There's a lot of people I know who--or at least used to--rag on me for listening to metal but they have all been torn apart in resonse. [!--emo&:D--]/biggrin.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'biggrin.gif\' /][!--endemo--] Actually, I would usually tell them to simply listen to some good metal or to learn a thing or two about it before shit-talking.

Onhell's right SMX, c'mon you are pissed off by something that really didn't matter, and personally I have had some trouble because of the fact I like metal, and in someway he was trying to say he likes metal more than any other thing, watch your posts SMX

I see you're new. Let me point out a few mistakes you made there:

- Revived thread that's almost a year old without adding substantially to it.

- Used present tense in reference to said topic, which, again, is nearly one year old.

- Told SMX to watch his posts. I'll leave it for the DICKtionary to follow up on this one.

Oh, and, welcome [!--emo&:)--]/smile.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'smile.gif\' /][!--endemo--]
