Metal Number 1 Singles in the UK charts

We all know Bring Your Daughter... ...To The Slaughter was a UK number 1 single. But it may also be the only bona fide heavy metal track to achieve this feat.

By my reckoning these are the only metal or metal adjacent tracks to have been number 1.

There are a few other numbers 1's from other bands that might be metal adjacent, like Queen, Pink Floyd, Manic Street Preachers, The Offspring and Lenny Kravitz, that I haven't counted as they are more associated with more mainstream genres. I have included Status Quo though as Down Down is pretty heavy.

Not a great list to be fair, the first 2 are classics, the rest a bit novelty. Stiltskin actually wasn't even a real band I don't think, it was just a rocky song made for a Levis ad.

Depending on who you ask, The Final Countdown and Killing In The Name might be considered classics as well.

I'd consider them both classics myself, but there is a bit of a novelty element to them as well, especially RATM as that was part of an organised campaign to stop another pop song from being the Christmas number one.
