Megadeth tour 2008 (plus a rant)

Ancient Mariner
I went to see Megadeth this past Wednesday in Stockholm. Stood in line for a few hours and finally got a place, second row in the middle. Anyway, there were two supportbands: Evile (quite good) and Avatatar (also good). Evile hardly got any respone, but Avatar got the audience warmed up. But it was during Avatar the ruthless assfucks started to force their way to the front. Several of the guys/girls that had waited several hours to get a front row place got pushed away. I feel sorry for them. Anyway, just after Avatar went offstage it got really ugly. Everybody started pushing, and I mean everybody. It was pretty close that some people got  thrown to the ground.

This really pissed me off, that the fuckheads that were too lazy to stand in line for a couple of hours were able to get to the front row. Damnit, if you want a good spot then be there in time.

Anwyay, eventually Megadeth got onstage. They got a warm welcome with some pimpled faces wannabe moshers getting people pissed. Anyways, good gig which got really enjoyable after three songs when the pushing seized (well, got reduced).

Setlist:
01. Sleepwalker
02. Take No Prisoners
03. Wake Up Dead
04. Skin O' My Teeth
05. Washington Is Next!
06. Kick The Chair
07. In My Darkest Hour
08. Hangar 18
09. Gears Of War
10. A Tout Le Monde
11. Tornado Of Souls
12. Ashes In Your Mouth
13. Never Walk Alone
14. Symphony Of Destruction
15. Trust
16. Peace Sells
---------------------
17. Burnt Ice
18. Holy Wars

I especially enjoyed
Tornado of souls, Symphony of Destruction, Skin O' my teeth and Holy Wars

Now, Mustaine: His stagepresence was better than expected, vocals good at most times but: What does that man have against  speaking to the audience? "Only fucking wankers chat with the audience". Really, that's pretty much all he said except: "You've been great, we're Megadeth!". Anyways, I almost caught his pick but the guy next to me were faster.
I'll definately see them again!

Exactly the same setlist as in Helsinki, except I saw them already on Monday. :)  Dave said that people who talk loads at a concert are really "wasting your fucking time," yet he had at least five speeches consisting of more than just shortly introducing the song.  He talked about how they had been in Finland since Thursday and how this was their first gig of the tour, he mentioned that one of his ancestors was an immigrant from Finland, talked a bit about the political theme of their new album...  But I didn't mind, as I like the frontman speaking a lot.

I didn't experience any pushing, but that's because I was not on the field, since I realised too late that the tickets were on sale.  My favourites were
Peace Sells (great bass intro by Lomenzo alone on stage), Holy Wars, Gears of War, Sleepwalker, Washington is Next, Symphony of Destruction (sounded really heavy live!), and A Tout le Monde.  Amazing setlist, I couldn't have hoped for better.  I was also happy with five new songs, that's not much less than Maiden (excluding AMOLAD).

My only gripes were some sound problems in the first two songs (but this was the first gig of their tour, so not unexpected), and most of the audience being rather unexcited.  The openers weren't really that amazing either: Ensiferum, a Finnish folk metal band, was ok, but only played half an hour.  It was nice to hear the singer speaking Finnish though.  Volbeat, a Danish band, was the second opener, but they felt pretty lame if you ask me.

But Megadeth absolutely rocked, and I only regret not buying a t-shirt (they were 30 euros, though, which was over my budget).

Edit: : Here's a video (with MINOR SPOILER) of one of Dave's speeches.  Not filmed by me, but anyway.  At the end he says the name of the next song, that's the spoiler.

WOW!  That's an amazing set list, except for
Trust
which sucks major ass.  The opening guitars licks on the song are good, but the lyrics... better not to go into it.  They're playing in a city about 50 km away from me.  I'm unfamiliar with the venue and I doubt I can even afford to go.

What to you are lazy fuckheads, to me are clever driven people that know what they want and know how to get it :p Why wait in line when you can just push your way through when the concert starts? This is the kind of think-out-side-the-box mentality that gets you places :D
