Two things:

1. Your link is broken. I get a "server not found" error when I click on it.

2. If your information conflicts with the information in the Commentary, I choose to believe the Commentary. I know and trust the author of the Commentary; I know how much work and research has gone into his website. He's also not arrogant enough to insist that he doesn't make mistakes, so if you think some of his data is wrong and you have corrections, why not share such information directly with him? Just send a PM to Maverick; if he finds that he's wrong and you're right, he'll almost certainly change his site. Furthermore, since the Commentary is already widely known and linked around the Net, helping to improve it does a greater service to the Maiden fan community than simple competition.

Please don't misunderstand me; I don't mean to imply that your effort in creating a list of Maiden tour dates is unappreciated. I simply think it's a good idea to point out errors to a site owner, rather than making a vague claim that such errors exist without being specific.

I fixed the link.

Click on it now, and you'll see why my work should be taken seriously. Just hover your cursor over most of the tour dates from 2000 on. Also, click on any tour date that comes pops up with a text box.

The list is still being updated, and it will take me several months since I have about 30 pages of notes to incorporate into the site. I am working from the current dates, backwards.

Not a single site on the web has done any effort to prove their list to be correct. My site is doing that.

Looks like a good site. And your research ideas seem solid.

However, I still believe in the free exchange of information. If you find errors on another site, I think it's more polite to point them out rather than say non-specifically "I'm right, you're not".

But I do congratulate you on your work so far.

[/quote] I understand what you are saying, but I've given up on trying to help others improve their lists. Many don't care. Plus, it's proved to be so much easier just to make my own. Not only that, it's nice to know that my hard work is being reflected back to me instead of another's list in which they don't even credit their sources.

At the same time, anyone who wants to start their own master list based on mine is free to do so, as long as they reference my list.

I agree with you: it's not your responsibility to make sure other people don't make mistakes.

And if Maverick does stumble on your site and choose to use information from you, he ought to credit you. We've had discussions about that before - he used to be bad about giving credit. He was scolded for it, and he's been much better since.

The credit is really important. It's not just about giving people their due, but it also proves your own reputability. To be credible, you want to list your sources so people can scrutinize them. If someone finds a source I use to be lacking credit, I want to know. That's why I list them. I try to make my information and my sources as transparent as possible so they can be attacked and scrutinized by people. The more scrutiny, the better I can do to fix errors and make my information that much more accurate.

The fact that no other site does this is the reason why there's been problems with these lists for years. Even the band's management and label can't even get the tour dates right!

And I can confirm that Ryan really wants the list scrutinized.
The more people looking at it, and questioning it, the better it will get.
There are corrections being made all the time.

Mega-update:
90% of the tour dates listed are backed up by some primary source (ticket stubs, newspaper articles, etc.). Just go to the site and put your mouse over any particular tour date and a text box with info about the tour date will come up.

Correction to the above: the estimate number should be 75%, not 90%.
