Maiden show their gratitude to loyal U.S. fans

IRON MAIDEN fan site MaidenFans.com report that in a recent interview with Maidenfans.com member AirRaidSyren, drummer Nicko McBrain spoke about the band's future in America.



Says Nicko, “Well, to be honest, we don't like playing in America. It's not good, and it's not me that has the major problems in the band since I live in America, but we have a real problem with American's attitude".



Nicko didn't say specifically that Maiden won't play in America anymore, but from this it's pretty clear that if that's the case it'll be just a few dates, like on the Dance Of Death tour last winter.
 
First of all, I didn't think that AirRaidSyren "interviewed" Nicko at all. My impression was that he asked him a few questions at a drum clinic, and that Nicko was probably speaking more casually than if it were a formal interview.

Regarding "American's attitudes"... I can't say I entirely blame Maiden for not liking the US very much these days. The US music audience, in general, is too heavily influenced by MTV and Clear Channel - who are in turn influenced by the almighty dollar rather than airing quality music. At the last 2 Maiden shows I attended here in Denver (BNW and GMETID tours) there was a substantial (around 10% to 20%) part of the crowd who were just there for the party and didn't really care about Maiden. I don't know if things are really any different on the other side of the Atlantic, but if they are then I completely understand Maiden's attitude.

Let's face it: real metal isn't America's style. There were a few brief years in the 80s when Maiden, Priest, Dio and Metallica were hugely popular, but overall America prefers hard rock. US fans like to hear songs about women, cars, women, parties, women, teenage angst... did I mention women? That's why Aerosmith, Kiss and Van Hagar can still sell out arenas even though none of them have released anything good in years.

I get a little sad whenever I realize that I've probably seen Maiden for the last time. I hope they come back to Denver again - maybe in '06 to support a new album - but I'm not counting on it.

I almost forgot - Maidenfans.com didn't report anything. One member made some posts about meeting Nicko. You're overstating the situation.

Also, I think your conclusion (though likely correct) isn't something you can draw from just a couple sentences from Nicko. You're really trying to extract too much from some casual remarks.

Kiss and Aerosmith teamed up for the tour. If they could sell out arenas independently they need no team up.
Kiss sold only 49 percent of all tickets on their last tour Rock The Nations.

yea, only few big gigs in major cities like in the rest of the world
