Looking for some suggestions

Hello! I'm sure you may be bored of seeing this sort of threads but any help would be great.

I'm quite a newcomer to Metal and looking for some suggestions, so far in the beginning of this journey I've been listening heavily to Iron Maiden (obviously) and Opeth, Mastodon and Black Sabbath are my top choices at the moment too.

Can anybody recommend me some other bands to progress onto?

Those are some fairly standard choices, then depending on what you like we can work from there to find you some more :)

Crimson Idol- Thanks, since I'm a newbie I think standard choice are good whilst I work out my palette for things :-)
 
Also, in the vein of some thrash metal bands, you should check out the early work of Metallica and Megadeth. In the case of Megadeth their recent stuff is good too, but the early albums are the best. Try Ride the Lightning from Metallica and Rust In Peace from Megadeth.
 
Helloween. Melodic metal with nice guitar work and lots of changes. They are famous for very fast songs, and very catchy song, but they also made some epic, adventurous ones. Surely could appeal to people who like Maiden. They have integrated guitar harmonies as well.

You may check out Dream Theater (firstly Images and Words, Awake and Scenes from a Memory), also Death (especially Individual Thought Patterns).
 
Try Iced Earth. Alive in Athens is a great place to start.
