Lady Gaga is "in talks" to tour with Queen as their singer, according to reports today (October 6).

According to Queen guitarist Brian May, who collaborated with the singer on her recent single 'You & I', Gaga is someone who the band have approached to front them in the future. Speaking to the Daily Express, May said that the band talk about touring together all the time, but still have to recruit a singer after parting ways with Paul Rodgers in 2009.
Asked about the possibility of Queen playing live again, May said:
"We talk about going out on the road all the time but there's a bit of a singer problem, to put it mildly. We get a lot of offers to work with other people. I worked with Lady Gaga and she's very creative and is someone we've talked about singing, fronting the band with. She's not just a singer, she writes her own material."
May also said that the band are looking into the possibility of doing duets with a series of artists, perhaps in a TV show format. He added:
"We have talked about doing duets with other people and in a strange way I almost pressed the yes button. We were debating the idea of a TV show where we have all these guest stars. We didn't press it today but we are still looking at it. Lady Gaga has said she would like to do something with us."

I agree with the first comment on Ultimate-Guitar. Either huge win, or a huge fail.
If talking about her music, I don't know what she is capable of, outside pop.

Maybe there will be a collaboration, but saying "becoming the new singer of Queen" is way too much.

Even if Brian May and Roger Taylor continue playing under the name of Queen, Queen ended with Freddie Mercury's death, which led to John Deacon's retirement. They're not Queen anymore for me, they're Brian May & Roger Taylor.

The were not just Queen even when playing with Paul Rogers, I doubt they will be Queen (and Queen only) with Gaga.

:ok: Queen will never be the same. Freddie is irreplaceable in my opinion.

While it's a truism to say that Queen isn't the same without Freddie, I'd be very interested to hear a May/Taylor/Gaga collaboration.  (Gaga's performance on the Howard Stern show was an eye-opener.)  But I agree with Flash, she's got too much going on to do a full tour with a pair of geriatrics.

I don't think Freddie is the real issue. It's John Deacon.

If Deacon was out there with May and Taylor, and they were calling themselves Queen, who could argue? Three out of four (with the fourth not available) is the real thing. I think the conversation would be different with three; it would be "Queen's not the same" instead of "it's not Queen".

Not that I begrudge John Deacon his well-earned retirement.

I missed this thread..... and my answer is a resounding Nooooooo.

Freddie being one of the big writing forces for the band was one thing, but for any band - change a guitar/drum/bass and the existing material will sound pretty similar (my argument for why I still cared about seeing GnR :P), but vocals make a massive difference to the sound.

I have seen Queen+PR and thoroughly enjoyed it, I think he did a great job.. he natrually cannot match Freddie simply because those songs were written FOR Freddie... but I still think he did a good job.

But, they still called it Queen+PR, not just Queen.

Metallica + Lou Reed
Queen + Lady Gaga

What's next?

Iron Maiden + Mark Knopfler?
Judas Priest + J.J. Cale?

Maiden + Knopfler would be interesting, certainly not 'maiden' or even maiden standard in terms of quality... but I don't think it would be bad, as long as the style of music was adjusted.

Yeah, Knopfler + Maiden would've been interesting.

I'll play along:
Judas Priest + Tom Waits
Iron Maiden + Elton John
Slayer + Leonard Cohen

It sounds more like they want to collaborate with Lady Gaga on something, not necessarily become Queen + Lady Gaga. But at any rate, she can sing...so it has the potential to be a big win.

I don't remember it being discussed here, but Queen did few concerts with Adam Lambert on vocals, and based on what I heard, he did a great job, at least IMO.

He isn't Freddie, but I prefer him over Paul Rodgers (in Queen, not generally). I know some people are sceptical, considering this guy is a mainstream pop singer, but give him a chance. Ofc, I wouldn't like them doing an album or anything, but few concerts here and there, to honor Freddie, sounds fine to me. Some songs he did great, like Who Wants To Live Forever and The Show Must Go On, on some he wasn't good, but he has the range IMO.
