Knighthoods For Maiden?

IronDuke

Ancient Mariner
In the past few years, it seems that Britain has honoured many of their famous musicians with knighthoods - Paul McCartney, Elton John, Tom Jones, etc.
It can't be denied that these guys have made HUGE contributions to British culture, and they've influenced generations of people around the world....

...But so has Iron Maiden. I wonder if we'll ever see Sir Nicko or Sir Bruce? Maiden has influenced not just the Metal scene around the world, but nearly all genres of music. They've prompted many music listeners to reject bullshit and think for themselves, and they're just plain awesome.
So, next time one of you Brits are having crumpets with the Queen, tell her to knight Iron Maiden.

(Adrian Smith couldn't accept a knighthood, because that would require Him to recognise HM the Queen as a higher power, and there is no high power than Adrian Smith. :: )

It would in any case be formally degrading Adrian Smith [img src=\"style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/sleep.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"-_-\" border=\"0\" alt=\"sleep.gif\" /]

Not that there's anything wrong with a knighthood. It's simply an honour in this day and age - thank you for your contribution to British culture.

I think that would devalue the honor, if that was even possible nowadays. It would be great to see Brucie or 'Arry getting a knighthood but they aren't exactly household names [img src=\"style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/wink.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\";)\" border=\"0\" alt=\"wink.gif\" /]

I think eddie should get one instead.

Sir Edward T Head.

Nice ring to it?

Seriously though, I don't think maiden have been influencial enough for a knighthood. An OBE/MBE/CBE maybe, but not a bit of swordwaving.

I don't think anybody outside of REAL knights (who don't exist anymore) should be knighted. I seriously think it is a joke to give the honor once reserved for people that would fight for your country to actors and musicians.

Agree with Onhell. To be honest, the people I respect most are the ones who turn the knighthood down (John Cleese for example)

I think it was a CBE.

I can just imagine 'Arry wearing a suit and kneeling down in front of her majesty with his long hair.......nah.

Why not, Brian May's always getting some honour or another.

Ahh. But Brian May is a lot more respectable than 'Arry considering that he has never been in a band that sung "666! The Number of the Beast!". ::

Agggh! It's the grammar police! ::

I seem to remember this topic being discussed before, a few months ago. I think we're just going to accept that the world will never appreciate Maiden, at least not in their lifetimes (which is eternity, obviously; we all know H granted the band immortality to keep the main driving forces of the universe constant-there's biological life and death, there's physical creation and destruction, there's chemical changes...and then there's Maiden [img src=\"style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/wink.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\";)\" border=\"0\" alt=\"wink.gif\" /] . 'Not many people know this, right, but whenever H, right, whenever he retires, the whole, you know, the whole universe will collapse in on itself!!! Crazy, innit?')
