I was doing some internet research for work today and I came across something I thought was the weirdest thing I've ever seen on the internet since the string boiling affair [!--emo&--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/wink.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'wink.gif\' /][!--endemo--]
Apparently, earplugs can cause cancer:
[!--QuoteBegin--][div class=\'quotetop\']QUOTE[/div][div class=\'quotemain\'][!--QuoteEBegin--]When the pop band assaults the ear canal in a too high volume, the partner snores or machines at the work station buzz, earplugs may protect ears. But every third product contains massively harmful substances[/quote]
The whole text (in German) can be found here:

Apparently, some earplugs contain halogen-organic substances which can cause cancer.
I don't know what to think. During the course of the past few weeks, I did research on building material of various forms. Judging from what I read and learned, I can't even enter a room anymore without a high risk of developing cancer.
The sad thing is that if these facts I researched get known to the broad public, a hell of a lot of people will take this too seriously and panic. Of course I would favour the removal of substances that cause or can cause cancer from material, but get real: If every substance that is capable of causing cancer would really do so to everyone who inhales even just an atom of whatever is contained in their emissions (I'm talking paint, for example), then the world would have lost way more than half of its population during the course of the past 50 years.
On the other hand, I am indeed shocked by reading about what kind of stuff can indeed cause cancer.
Earplugs. Way to go.
