I was VERY surprised to see this. James Durbin who was eliminated is singing with them. He is pretty good. I also looked the other songs he sang and he did a lot of good songs. (Even Heavy Metal, one of my favorite Hagar songs) Normally I don't go for metal bands on Idol but I think an exception can be made here.  :ok:

I think it's very cool a wannabe pop star chose Priest for this.
I think it's pretty cool the network let him do it.
While I don't blame them for accepting, Priest appearing on this show only feeds my skepticism of the current album and tour.
And I don't think the new guy's KK clone act is cool at all.

How so? I think they were supporting an obvious metal fan who has been supporting it since the season began.

I hope that's the case and it certainly could be their main motivation.
It's just the farewell tour concept, KK's mysterious departure, the look of his replacement, Rob's description of the new album and now this all smack more of marketing than music.
I mean it's not like they haven't fallen in that manner before. But I'm trying to keep an open mind on this.
My judgment will be based first on the music and even then I'll be pretty forgiving.
I forgave them for Turbo.

IMHO if KK had left 20 years ago and Priest went with a KK clone I would have frowned upon it but at this point in their career they are pretty much preaching to the choir and a "farewell" tour especially is to give the fans what they want and expect.

I can understand the logic of trying to gloss over KK's absence (however impossible that may be) .

Most Priest fans will not boycott the show and once they are there and have a few beers and get carried away by nostalgia they will probably be happy and and the KK clone helps that process..IMHO!

It won't be that bad. The description of the album is that they are aiming for Classic Priest. Which is good, I think we would all like that. And I get the whole Farewell Tour thing too, I'm a bit curious about the whole thing and I have been since it was announced and it my curiosity was raised when KK announced his departure. However, I try not to relate this to the American Idol appearance for reasons that I think I have already made clear.

1. I didn't wanted a new album, 'cause I think that Nostradamus was a fitting farewell. I expect the new album to be good, but not better than Nostradamus or their classic albums.

2. About KK's departure: you know what, I don't fuckin' care! Whatever is the cause of his departure, he should've went on this farewell tour for the fans.

3. Performing on Idol: I didn't watch the video, but I guess that it's an OK way to introduce the new guitarist. I guess that the guy they were playing with is a metalhead, so it's good that they helped him.

This is great publicity. Great f or Priest.

And the performance wasn't half bad. Except James Durbing sang off pitch at times. But it was still good.

Watched the video, not a bad deal.  I hope they do not pull a Kiss and just go on after the Farewell Tour with the "new KK".

If anything though, it is obviously a widely watched show, so instead of some crap pop act of the day, Judas Priest was playing music on Prime Time US TV, which is something I thought I would never see.

I don't. I didn't like it much at all, and I would like Priest's last album to be a hard rocking one. I don't expect it to be better than their classic albums either, but I'm not gonna write it off as impossible.

I agree.

New album, no tour but maybe an occassional show. That's the deal.

I thought Angel Of Retribution was amazing and had a classic Priest sound for the most part and I personally loved the dark sound and feel of Nostradamus so I'm sure I'll like the next album.
