Judas Priest DVD 'Electric Eye' Scheduled For North American Release
On December 9th Through Sony Music
Classic Music Videos, 'PRIEST ... LIVE!' Concert & Rare BBC Television Appearances Included
Judas Priest, the kings of pure heavy metal, will release the DVD 'Electric Eye' on Sony Music in North America on December 9, 2003. 'Electric Eye' includes 13 classic music videos, the complete 'Priest...Live!' concert video from 1986 that's been long out of print, and seven rare BBC television appearances. Much of the material has been out of print on VHS for many years.
'Electric Eye' is the first new release from Judas Priest since it was announced in July that lead guitarists Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing, bass guitarist Ian Hill and drummer Scott Travis had reunited with vocalist Rob Halford to bring back the band's definitive, most musically creative and explosive lineup.
Judas Priest recognized the promotional potential of music videos, and the band was one of the first to embrace and fully utilize the burgeoning art form even before MTV first burst onto cable television airwaves.
The 13 videos span seven albums released across a decade: "Living After Midnight" and "Breaking the Law" (from 1980's 'British Steel'), "Don't Go," "Heading Out to the Highway" and "Hot Rockin'" (from 1981's 'Point of Entry'), "You've Got Another Thing Comin'" (from 1982's 'Screaming for Vengeance'), "Freewheel Burning" and "Love Bites" (from 1984's 'Defenders of the Faith'), "Locked In" and "Turbo Lover" (from 1986's 'Turbo'), "Johnny B. Goode" (from 1988's 'Ram It Down'), and "Painkiller" and "A Touch of Evil" (from 1990's
'Painkiller').
Two of the clips are iconic. The slyly humorous "Breaking the Law" video portrays the band as musical outlaws using fake guitars to rob a bank of its treasure of gold albums. "You've Got Another Thing Comin'" is Judas Priest's biggest hit to date and the moody, lasers-drenched video -- shot at the Kempton Park electric plant outside London -- helped pave the way for airplay of heavy metal on MTV.
'Priest...Live!' was filmed in 1986 in Dallas, TX, on the 'Fuel For Life' tour promoting the 'Turbo' album. This concert was originally available on VHS but has been unavailable for quite some time. The tracks on 'Priest...Live!' are: "Out in the Cold," "Locked In," "Heading Out to the Highway," "Breaking the Law," "Love Bites," "Some Heads Are Gonna Roll," "The Sentinel," "Private Property," "Desert
Plains," "Rock You All Around the World," "The Hellion/Electric Eye," "Turbo Lover," "Freewheel Burning," "The Green Manalishi (With the Two-Pronged Crown)," "Parental Guidance," "Living After Midnight," "You've Got Another Thing Comin'," "Hell Bent for Leather" and "Metal Gods."
Perhaps the most exciting clips on 'Electric Eye' are the seven rare BBC television performances from the prestigious "Old Grey Whistle Test" and "Top of the Pops" shows. These BBC videos include: "Rocka Rolla" ("Old Grey Whistle Test" - April 25, 1975), "Dreamer Deceiver/ Deceiver" ("Old Grey Whistle Test" - April 25, 1975), "Freewheel Burning" ("Old Grey Whistle Test" - January 20, 1984), "Take on the World" ("Top of the Pops" - January 25, 1979), "Evening Star" ("Top of
the Pops" - May 17, 1979), "Living After Midnight" ("Top of the Pops" - March 27, 1980), and "United" ("Top of the Pops" - August 28, 1980).
The visual history of classic Judas Priest is covered superbly on 'Electric Eye,' and this time capsule is but one steppingstone to the future -- namely the upcoming new studio album and a mammoth world tour.
