Can you believe this guy.The more I read about the atrocities he's committed against his family the worse it gets. Apart from raping his daughter and having 7 children by her, cremating one in a furness, making her watch hardcore porn and re-enacting the scenes,
he was systematically torturing her with oversized sex toys.Apparently, apart from the mental torment, she has suffered, she has internal injuries that she will never recover from.

Most countries have celebrated criminals, we have Jack the Ripper, the Yorkshire Ripper, the Krays etc etc, however this guy ,in my opinion, tops the lot.

At least he has changed his plea to guilty, but instead of going to prison, he should end up dangling on the end of a rope.

Incidentally does anyone really believe his wife when she says she knew nothing about it.

He's demented, but he's sure not in the top 10 of demented criminals.  Probably in the top 25, though.  I'd say he deserves to be locked up for the rest of his life.  As for his wife...well.  Psychological trauma will screw with mothers too, you know.  I bet even if she is culpable he conditioned her so badly that she can't be held responsible.

Hmm, no. Him going to prison is quite alright. I don't know much about the Austrian legal system, but if it's anything like the German one, the guy will go to prison and the nuthouse afterwards for the rest of his life.
I caught the evening news on a rather voyeuristic, tabloid-style channel today, and they were going into detail about the trial and his confessions. Apparently, the guy broke down in court and confessed to all his crimes after allegedly being ashamed of them before. I don't know if that is true, but if it is that would mean the open confrontation gave him a sense of shame. Given that he will spend the rest of his life locked in and mostly by himself (also for security reasons, as it is likely other inmates would literally tear him apart), and alone with his conscience. He will have no relief from this guilt, and that sounds like a terrible, and in this case terribly fair, punishment. That guy will never have one happy second again in his life. Killing him would only relieve him.

Yes. I would believe that guy suppressed his wife enough that she was too afraid to go and find out what he was doing all the time.

A top 10 list is hard because after a while all these psychos are the same. Neglected, traumatized children, mentally ill, social drop outs, charming pretty boys that seem "normal." etc...

But off the top of my head I'd have to say,

1. Charles Manson
2. David Kemper
3. Ted Bundy

the most notorious of the big sub-categories of deranged killers. Manson was a social drop-out, David Kemper was just nuts (Killed his grandma just to know what that would be like and killed his grand father when he got home, because, "He would be angry when he found out," and Bundy is the most notorious "boy-next-door" turned killer.

Serial Killers and Mass Murderers were a fascination of mine in high school and I still read up on them every now and then.

There is one German fellow... Peter... Kline? no, that's not it, who was also pretty crazy. I'll look him up, but aside from Kemper, I remember him being specially sadistic with his victims as early as age 7 or 9 (allegedly drowned a childhood friend).

I had a thought about the most notorious criminals in the UK, and the thing that struck me was that aside from The Krays, their were two couples that spring to mind - in both cases it was a man and a woman in partnership with each other:

Ian Brady & Myra Hindley and
Fred & Rosie West.

So, the three worst in the UK are all couples - twins, lovers and husband & wife.

Then you have the lone loony like Dr Harold Shipman. It's reckoned he's killed around 200 people.

Russia seems to specialise in cannibalism.

I can think of two others. The first is Peter Kürten, the "Vampire of Düsseldorf". He killed 9 people in a very sadistic manner and attempted another 7 murders between 1913 and 1931, notoriously sucking blood from their wounds and later confessing that he got sexual kicks from that. It doesn't sound that spectacular when I write it now, but that guy was really amazingly sick.

The other one I can think of right now is Armin Meiwes, also known as the "Cannibal of Rotenburg". In 2001, he met with another man who expressed his desire to have Meiwes eat his penis and later kill him (Meiwes said he wanted to "completely disappear"). The case really shocked and disgusted the country back then, and because there are no cannibalism laws in Germany, nobody was quite sure what to do with him. Eventually they charged him for murder and desecration of corpses.

That's the guy I was thinking of, thank you Perun.

Can I get some respect for my home state (Wisconsin) and the crazy fucks we produced?

Ed Gein was an American murderer and grave robber. His crimes, which he committed around his hometown of Plainfield, Wisconsin, generated widespread notoriety after authorities discovered Gein had exhumed corpses from local graveyards and fashioned trophies and keepsakes from their bones and skin. He is often called a serial killer despite his conviction for only two murders, though he indeed provided an influence for several fictional serial killers: Norman Bates from Psycho, Jame Gumb from The Silence of the Lambs, and Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Jeffrey Dahmer was an American serial killer and sex offender. Dahmer murdered 17 men and boys – most of whom were of African or Asian descent – between 1978 and 1991, with the majority of the murders occurring between 1987 and 1991. His murders were particularly gruesome, involving rape, torture, dismemberment, necrophilia and cannibalism.

Maybe other states produced more killers, but it's hard to beat those 2 for stomach-turning insanity.

I had forgotten about him - but what makes him so nasty was the fact that he did his business as a GP. One of the most trusted and respected of all professions.

Gein did come to mind, but I decided not to list him as, like you pointed out, only murdered 2 people. He was definately crazy (falls under the tormented child category), yet the reason he killed was because he ran out of bodies in the grave yard, last resort type thing. Aside from his... um... assortment of... "furniture" and "costumes" I wouldn't put him in the same league as the ones I previously mentioned. He'd be top 25 :D

Glad you mentioned Dahmer. Suppressed homosexuals seem to another breed (John Wayne Gacey anyone?).
