Juventus, Lazio and Fiorentina have been relegated to Serie B, but Milan will stay up with a 15 point deduction before they even kick a ball next season. Can we have an auction for some of Juve's players? I might be able to pick one up cheap

I reckon they will keep most of their players.

For income, a club mainly depends on TV rights, gate receipts, advertising and a very small portion is from winning trophies.

The clubs will still be able to afford their wage bill next year... all they need is a dedicated fanbase, either at the stadium or at home watching television.  Juventus will be reluctant to let any of their big names go, especially as they will be straight back up next year ;)

Serie B is nowhere near as competitive as the Championship, so they will last one season there.

Juve will be there for 2 seasons at least. With everyone else having a 30 point head start on them it will be VERY difficult to get automatic promotion this season. Why would any of their top top stars stay in that league for two seasons knowning that European football is likely to be FOUR seasons away (assuming 2 seasons to get promoted, one season re-establishing themselves as a force in the top division and one to finish in the top 6) they could go to one of 40 odd clubs and get Champions League football THIS season.
Some will stay one season at least I'm sure but not the biggest names. The more players who leave the longer Juve will take to get back to the top

There wn't be as much media coverage of that division so revenue WILL go down. Theyre hardly likely to buy any big names for a while so merchandising will fall. If all the big names go they could lose a large amount of revenue on turnstiles too

I had no idea how serious their punishement was - especially Juve's! I just assumed it was relegation then a small manner of getting promoted again and for a club of Juve's stature in a not so much of a competitive league, should'nt be too much of an issue. But a 30 point deduction before they start playing! I agree that most of their big names will quite possibly leave, bearing in mind some are World Champions. And for one of the biggest names in Italian sport to be reduced to this, well maybe they should of been a little bit more careful.

Del Piero has already said he will stay at Juventus - a show of loyalty which is sadly pretty uncommon nowadays. Apart from him, Juventus will lose most of their world-stars. As for the other clubs, Lazio don't really have any big players apart from Oddo. Fiorentina have a few; most likely to leave them is Luca Toni. AC Milan, I imagine, willl be able to hold on to most of their players, but the loss of Champions League football could push a couple of their players out, hopefully to England. Gatusso and Pirlo have both previously been linked to Man U, and they're both players that I would love to see in the Premiership. Other rumours link Buffon to Arsenal, but I can't see many Italians moving to the Premiership. It seems Real Madrid will profit most from Juventus' downfall, as reports say they have already agreed terms with Fabio Cannavaro, and have been strongly linked with Zambrotta too.

The points deduction for Juventus is really interesting, because it might have been kinder to them to have relegated them straight to Serie C. I don't know around what sort of points mark teams get relegated with in Italy, but with a 30 points deduction from the start of next season, is there a possibilty that Juventus might get relegated to Serie C next season? If that's the case, then it will be at least three seasons before Juve are back in Serie A, which make Champions League football five seasons away. With players' careers lasting only 12 to 15 years at the top level, how many players are going to want to waste anywhere between one and five years without playing football at the very top? Not many, I think.

Juventus will appeal the decision. They will start the season with a ten points deduction. They will win Serie B. They will hold on to most of their star players. They will not lose a lot of money from media coverage (people still want to see their matches!) They will qualify for Europe within two seasons (ending 2008).

Want to give me odds?

Here is a link to last seasons Serie B final table. They also have some league notes about it that state the bottom 3 go down and the 18th and 19th placed teams face a play off, resulting in 4 teams going down. The team that finished 18th got 46 points from 42 games. To get above 18th (should the league be of a similar result), Juve would need to get more than 76 points from 42 games. Achievable.

You say that peopple will still want to see their matches, but I disagree. Juve are quite similar to Man. U in this country, in the fact that most of their supporters, while I refrain from calling them 'glory-supporters', do not come from Turin or its surroundings. Attendances for their Champions League games have been around 20,000 for the past few seasons, and they don't even fill their stadium for league matches, despite having won Serie A for the past two seasons. This prompted Juventus to re-build the Stadio Delle Alpi which I believe will happen within the next couple of years, in fact reducing their capacity to just 35,000.

Money: they will lose an estimated £30 million for being kicked out of the Champions League this season. If the income from media coverage is similar to how it operates in England, then Juventus will be given a lump-sum of "TV money", the same amount as every other team in Serie B.

As I said before, I think they will lose most of their star players. They do have lots of them though, and it's possible that some of the older ones (Nedved, Thuram etc.) might choose to stay, in which case they have a good chance of staying up in Serie B, but surely not winning it.
