From my "research" (if you can call it that) the shirts that sell for the most on Ebay tend to be date and location specific shirt from the '80s. For example, there are shirts from: Madison Square Garden shows on the Piece of Mind tour, the Texas shows during Somewhere on Tour (eddie has a cowboy hat, funny stuff) and there are Canadian show shirts from 7th son, amongst others. In general, the older the shirt the more it sells for. Just because it is rare, however, does not necessarily mean it will sell for more. Old British tour 1980 shirts are very rare, as are Killers World Tour shirts. Number of the Beast shirts. Piece of Mind, and Powerslave are rare as well, but can usually be found on Ebay at most times. They tend to be sold in groups: one seller will have a handful of old shirts for sale at one time. If you're persistent, you can find a great deal. I was able to get a great sleeveless t-shirt from the Piece of Mind tour, in great condition, for about $30. Ebay "Iron Maiden tour shirt"
But be careful when you're looking for vintage shirts. There are SOOOOO many fakes on Ebay that it disgusts me. People advertise shirts are rare, vintage, and from 1984-85 Powerslave tour. What these idiots don't say is that the shirt is just a re-print. They took an old shirt design, which usually didn't exist (for example, there have been reprints of Piece of Mind and World Slavery shirts at Hot Topic lately. The shirts will take designs which were only available on two seperate shirts (front or back) and combine the two to make one new shirt design, which NEVER EXISTED! The piece of Mind artwork on the front of the shirt never had the picture of eddie ripping open the Earth with "World Piece tour 1983" on the back. Each of those desigsn ended up on a shirt, but not together like that) and just re-printed it. Always make sure you can read the copyright year. The manufacturers information and year should be on all of Maiden's old official shirts all the way back to the beginning. The new shirts will claim to be from the World Slavery tour, but the small print will read 2006. I suppose the real Holy Grail would be one of those red t-shirts that said Iron Maiden in black on th em from 1979-80. However, I've never seen one for sale, and it would be nearly impossible to establish if it's genuine or just something some guy made since those were not dated and are very plain. happy hunting
