In Flames

Kynisk Sokol

Ancient Mariner
I just wondered what your opinions on this band are. I got "The Jester Race" and "Black Ash Inheritance". They're great stuff. The Maiden influences are pretty obvious but I wonder what their other material is like. Maybe we could share some reccomendations and opinions that's all. A new album eh? I wonder what the fans' reaction will be to that. They'll probably be even more angry! [!--emo&^_^--]/happy.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'happy.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

In Flames have taken the same path as many of their peers, going "softer" with each album. Although this is not completely true for "Soundtrack...", the trend is still there. This started around "Clayman", which I consider to be one of their better albums, but it's regarded as the "beggining of the decline" by many of the tr00 kvlt fans, and is therefore a poor release in their opinion. My personal favorites are Jester Race, Whoracle and Clayman. Oh, and Colony [!--emo&:)--]/smile.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'smile.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

Standout tracks (off the top of my head):

Only For the Weak
Pinball Map
Epsode 666
Jotun
The Jester's Dance (instrumental)
Colony
among others

there are several special editions, and not all of them have the bonus track, but yes, it's a damn fine one [!--emo&:)--]/smile.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'smile.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

I've seen a saw-edged CD edition as well as a "3D" cover for this album

edit: Don't post while drunk, I misread the post above as "Clayman" instead of Colony. I haven't checked out the special edition of that one, but will do so when i get the chance.

The tr00 kvlt fans just want "The Jester Race" released over and over again. It's all about staying tr00 you know. [!--emo&;)--]/wink.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'wink.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

I'm a HUGE fan of Early In Flames. Subterranean is AWESOME, specially their cover of "Murders in the Rue Morgue", Luner Strain and of course the Jester Race. To me their best by far is Whoreacle where they keep true to their past but you find many of their newer elements. Colony is ok, while Clayman is a masterpiece. Reroute to remain is their "black album" The core fans call it a sell-out move, I call it a piece of shit. It sucks, I didn't even bother buying "Soundtrack". And I agree that softer doesn't necessarily mean "crappy" as proven by Clayman but their earlier material is just as brilliant.

Get the Colony Special Editon, I know you have colony but the Special Edition is remastered and it has the bonus track I mentioned before, I promise you won't regret buying it

sounds like a plan... when i have some money hehe. I have to say that Colony has my all-time favorite in Flames track (Zombie inc.) it just has a brilliant solo [!--emo&:D--]/biggrin.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'biggrin.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

Fans of In Flames owe it to themselves to check out [a href=\'http://witheringsurface.dk/\' target=\'_blank\']Withering Surface[/a], a Danish band that in my humble opinion surpass the swedes in many, albeit not all, ways. Unfortunately, they split up almost a year ago, partially due to lack of attention, which is a real shame - I did get to see them on their farewell tour though [!--emo&:)--]/smile.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'smile.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

Their last 2 albums "Walking on Phantom Ice" and "Force the Pace" are up there with In Flames at their best - check out the samples on the page if you don't believe me [!--emo&;)--]/wink.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'wink.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

In my opinion, In Flames is one of the most boring and overrated bands ever.

Trust me, I know what I am talking about. I have been forced to listen to them for about half a year, on almost daily basis.

Anybody would get sick of that Perun, so no, I don't trust you, there is a saying that says "a huevo no entra ni el zapato" which roughly translates to "nothing goes in by force, not even a shoe." if you were "forced" to listened to it just like children are "forced" to go to church and school well of course you wouldn't like it, I wouldn't either.

Hey, at least you're not being 'forced' to listen to radio friendly crap. What happened to you is pretty merciful when you think about it. [!--emo&;)--]/wink.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'wink.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

I saw these guys at Ozzfest. I'd have to say that they were one of the better bands there. (That isn't saying much, considering I tought most of the bands there wern't to good...)
