Impressions from the kickoff of the Ozzy/Halford North American tour last night:

I was there to see Halford and he didn’t disappoint. Twelve tunes — a surprisingly healthy total for an opening act. Rob’s voice was good — clear and dead-on, with a judicious sprinkle of screams. Band sounded solid. Set suffered a bit from the lack of spectacle tied to being an opening act in an arena, but the sold-out house seemed into it. It was a mostly over-40 crowd that was there for Mama I’m Coming Home and was unfamiliar with Rob’s material. He unwrapped three Priest nuggets, but stuck mostly to the more accessible elements of his solo catalogue and seemed to win them over.
Didn’t have huge expectations for Ozzy. I think he’s been a manufactured act for the past 20 years and expected him to be old and tired.
From that perspective I was pleasantly surprised. He played a good mix of songs from most stages of his career. His band is young and kickass. Gus G. has the chops and nailed the material. The drummer pounded the shit out of his kit.
Oz was less of a caricature than I expected. His voice sounded on and his energy level was good for most of the show. He seemed to tire at the end though and he lost his way badly on I Don’t Want Change The World.
Most of my buddies enjoyed the show, except for the one who was probably the biggest Ozzy fan. He figured Ozzy has lost it.
I guess it’s a matter of expectations.
I thought the night was well worth the trip.

Thanks !

I'm curious about the Halford setlist. Always interesting if he's delving oldies from the pit.

Resurrection, Made in Hell, Locked and Loaded, Made of Metal, Fire and Ice, Nailed to the Gun, Thunder and Lightning (the highlight, I think) Green Manalishi, Diamonds and Rust, Jawbreaker, Like There's No Tomorrow, Cyberworld

Osborne took a page out of Maiden's book during the show, dedicating a song (Killer of Giants) to his "good friend" Ronnie James Dio.
Nice gesture, but I was wondering if anyone was able to call bullshit on the good friends line?
I can't remember any specifics on a feud between the two, but I always thought Ozzy and Dio were anything but close.
