If Clive Burr was drummer on Piece of mind and onwards ?

Do you think the album Maiden would have been less enjoyable or the they would have had less success? Obviously theres some stuff Clive probably never could have done what Nicko did , like Somewhere in Time and lot of other bass drum stuff that Nicko did. But, something like WED i think he could have handled with some practice i dont think early 20`s has hit hes peak. I think they would have been just as succesfull , the complicated stuff Nicko does is barely noticeable and drummer nerd stuff. Clive had some chops too and i think Maiden would have been just as respected and legends as they are now if they would have continued with Clive

So you know pretty much nothing about drumming, but that's ok.

I think Nicko joining was not a game changer for Maiden, so with Clive, they still would have huge success. However there is no way to deny that Nicko pushed the groove to a different level which was more unique than Clive's style, and I think thats a factor in the band's overall appeal. While Nicko probably not extended Maiden success, he solidified their position, and this should not be underestimated. Especially not in a long time career.
Nicko also had character, and in huge successful bands there has to be figures and personas that fans connect to. Nicko definitely hadamuch more visible persona than the introverted Clive.

Successful and enjoyable, ofc. Different, yes. Especially some POM songs or SIT album. Clive was a great drummer, but some of the songs would have been changed in the drumming department, despite the steady, solid and very nice feel in his playing. Nicko allowed the band to have their always liked/desired prog feel. Overall, he pushed their style and groove with his technique and unique feel. New level and big factor, especially with their future songwriting.

Maiden would've also needed a new drummer much sooner than 2025, due to Clive's MS. Wonder who would've been in consideration in that scenario?

Interesting question, well posed. I'm no drummer but I'll have a go.

Clive had a nice swing to his style and drove the band on their early, pacy material.

Whereas Nicko really was idiosyncratic and inventive. I know it's way ahead in the timeline, but Nicko's drumming on a song like The Unbeliever in 1995 is as unique as the song itself. I can't imagine Clive growing into a drummer of that style.

Actually, I think keeping Clive would have kept them more commercial, but he would have needed to be replaced anyway sadly.
