It's August 25 in Germany. Always the Friday BEFORE European release.

No, it's because Major-lables always release new records on Fridays since this year.

But why different in Germany, is what I'm asking? Maiden are British, and so is Sanctuary (as far as I'm aware, and I'm not sure about EMI)-wouldn't it make more sense to have an early release in Britain? If you could explain why the labels choose Germany, I would be much obliged.

It has been a recent campaign by the music industry to raise sales. That's all there is to it. Some clever marketing guy thought "hey, when we release albums BEFORE the weekend rather than after, people will be able to go and buy it without having to skip their job... that should get some copies sold"
so they put up all those posters saying "Friday is music-day!" and changed the release day from Monday to Friday.
