How many lurkers do we have?

I keep seeing things like "63 guests and 8 users online" at the bottom of the screen when I browse the forums. There are always at least 5 of you on who don't have accounts or don't log in when you visit.

I was a lurker for about a year, then I registered and posted some, and now I'm mostly back to being a lurker again [!--emo&:rolleyes:--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/rolleyes.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'rolleyes.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

hehe me too... and its much better to be registerred than to be a lurker...
 
I've never been a lurker. I saw a link to a maidenfans form once fromt he IMBB, i saw it, i liked it, and I joined in the same day.

Why call these people lurkers? Call them prowlers instead(it would be a bit more topical) Me, myself was never a lurker. Just joined the same day I saw the link from the IMC.

I browsed around for about half a year before I joined but mostly around the site, never really in the forum.

Me too!... I allways browsed in the commentary and really never in the forums... as soon as I knew I could register, I did so

The membership rolls are periodically purged in this manner. However, I don't know how often that happens, and I think it's more like 6 months with 0 posts before you're in danger. If you want the details, PM RealWorld.
 
We've done that twice I think - first in August 2004 when everyone with less than 5 posts who hadn't visited for three months got removed, and then in November when everyone who hadn't visisted for some time got deleted regardless of post count.

I can ask RW to do another clear-up if you want.
 
I was a lurker for a few weeks, because I wanted to check if this a board where there are not any assholes on. So I decided to join this board because it's great, not like that other board... what the hell is a lurker? I've never heard that word before, but after reading all the posts, I think I get it.

I I'm a very big fan of the Commentary and I had been checking it out for about two weeks until I discovered the forum and I joined in that same day and posted about 5 posts that day.

I've been here for almost a year but I don't have much posts because I had no internet for about 6 months.

lol, Im obviously not a lurker, almost 40 posts in my first day here, lol
 
Post count is irrelevant. Post quality is what matters. That's why RW turned off post counting in the madness forum - too many people were posting useless crap just to bump up their post count.
 
I admit it...about a third of my posts were in the Now Playing thread back when it was in General Discussion.
 
hey, ive been "prowling" (good suggestion) for like a year, i saw this topic and decided to register. the imc is what got me frequenting the site.
