Rockers Go To Bat For Music Education

SAUSALITO, Calif. - Chophouse Records and members of Voivod, a hugely influential underground Heavy Metal band from Montreal, Canada, announced today that the band will be holding a very special rehearsal session at the legendary Plant Recording Studios.

Chophouse Records President and Voivod bassist, Jason Newsted said, \"Getting real instruments into young people's hands and encouraging a fun, rewarding relationship with music, is very important in today's times of school music program cuts and other deterrents. We want to help create a positive, motivational force through music for some really cool kids.\" It is for this reason that the band has invited school children from around the Bay Area to the Plant on Friday, April
11, 2003, where the band is rehearsing for their upcoming US tour with Sepultura that kicks off April 18 at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco. Newsted will be handling bass duties in Voivod and Ozzy Osbourne's band as the trek continues through Canada and tops off the summer with Ozzfest.

Participating students are all receiving music instruction from a non-profit organization called Little Kids Rock (LKR). Founded by an elementary school teacher in 1996, LKR brings free music classes into public schools in CA, NY, NJ and TN. LKR Executive Director, Dave Wish, said that student's, parent's, and teacher's from the program have been invited to an exclusive rehearsal session at the Plant where they will meet and interact with the band members, maybe even jam with
them!

\"The kids are beside themselves with excitement,\" said Wish. \"We at LKR are deeply grateful because the band is also donating 13 guitars for the kids (in honor of their just released thirteenth album) as well as giving us some autographed Fender Precision electric basses to sell at auction.\"

LKR students learn to perform, compose and record their own music from a variety of genres, including pop, rock, funk, blues, rap and hip-hop. In addition to releasing three full-length CDs, the kids of Little Kids Rock have also recorded a music video featuring student-written originals. To date, the Little Kids Rock program has served more than 2,000 students in California, New York, New Jersey
and Tennessee.

Supporters of the program include musicians Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead, Bonnie Raitt, Carlos Santana, B.B. King and the late blues legend, John Lee Hooker.

ABOUT LITTLE KIDS ROCK
Little Kids Rock believes that music is a critical component of a first-rate education. Many elementary schools have been stripped of their music programs. These cuts have had a disproportionately large impact on children from low-income backgrounds. Little Kids Rock restores music to its rightful place in the academic lives of the kids in our public schools by providing a rich music education program
including instruments, instruction, and trained mentors. Founded in 1996, Little Kids Rock is headquartered in San Francisco, California and serves schools throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, New York and New Jersey. Little Kids Rock will be opening a Memphis chapter in the summer of 2002. ABOUT VOIVOD
Respected. Influential. Always amazing. Voivod is possibly the most creative band to master the metal form. 2003 is a landmark year for the band. It marks entry into their third decade. It marks the band's 13th full-length album. It reunites lead singer Denis Belanger aka Snake with other founding member's Michel Langevin aka Away and Denis D'Amour aka Piggy, and brings into the fold Jason Newsted aka Jasonic, formerly with Metallica. 2003 will be a year of vindication for everyone--band and fans--as their latest offering, the 13-song monster simply titled Voivod, carries on the tradition of moving metal forward into new dimensions.

ABOUT THE PLANT
The Plant is one of the world's foremost recording studios and has been for many years. It is located North of San Francisco in the quaint but very posh little town of Sausalito, California. The award winning facility has been a favorite place to record for big name artists such as Santana, Stevie Wonder, Primus, Metallica, Crosby
Stills Nash and Young, Fleetwood Mac, Prince, John Lee Hooker, Journey, Van Morrison, Sammy Hagar, Dave Matthews, Todd Rundgren, Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin, and Ozzy Osbourne.
