I want to know if Harris use the technique of tapping or popping in a song? if yes wich one. [!--emo&:hammerhead:--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/smashfreakB[1].gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'smashfreakB[1].gif\' /][!--endemo--]

I don't recall Steve ever tapping or popping. It's not his style; he's a very traditional player.

Perhaps this belongs in Musicians Discussion?

He only play with 2-3 fingers... but not with slap, or tapping... in Sea Of Madness seems to be some slap in the bass, but... it isn't... i'm a musician, and in none song he use other technique

steves a legend. but i thought he used more than 2 fingers [!--emo&;)--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/wink.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'wink.gif\' /][!--endemo--] looks like hes frequently using 4 in some of the vids. if he is using 2 fingers playing at that speed is impressive.

Steve uses only 2 right-hand fingers the vast majority of the time. The only exceptions to this that I can think of offhand are:
1. When he plays chords on the bass, he often uses his thumb and first finger held in a position as if he were using a pick and downstroking the chord.
2. In the first part of the slow middle section of Rime of the Ancient Mariner (the ascending triplets), he uses his thumb to pick all the notes, moving the thumb across the three strings in one motion for each triplet.

I don't recall any times when I've seen him use 3 or 4 fingers, but I could be wrong. I'll look for it next time I watch Visions of the Beast. It would make him a little more human if he did resort to 3 or 4 fingers sometimes. I know I need 3 fingers to play Caught Somewhere In Time, and Steve can play that song with only 2. (Or at least he could in 1987 - they haven't performed it since then.)

yeh i dont ever recall steve using tapping before or slap but i ent a bassist so i dont watch steve in the videos

you have to play "Phantom of the opera" with an pick right?.... Man, i dont see why he is made "Unhuman" becouse he plays with two fingers... i play all the black metal songs i play with my fingers, and its not that hard playing as fast as steve.... and he plays chords with the back of his finger nails.. and if he plays on 3 strings at a time (like the verse in "remeber tomorow") i have seen him use his thumb on the A string, and the two he usually uses on the D ang G string(now some musiccal stupid guy gonna say:"He Uses an G-String?! [!--emo&--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/huh.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'huh.gif\' /][!--endemo--] ") .....

First of all, it's unnecessarily rude and highly inaccurate to call non-musicians stupid. There's only a very small number here who might fit that description. Most people here are very intelligent.
Second, if you're going to insult people anyway, you should at least investigate using correct grammar and spelling when you do so. As it stands, your comment says more about your own intelligence (or lack thereof) than about other people.

You make a good point about the way Steve plays arpeggiated chords in songs like Remember Tomorrow. He plays the fast acoustic bass parts of the Clansman the same way: thumb picking the lower string and a finger picking the higher string. I didn't get to see the DoD tour because Maiden didn't come within 1000 miles of my town [!--emo&:(--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/sad.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'sad.gif\' /][!--endemo--] but I'd guess he uses the same technique on No More Lies and Dance of Death.

I personally play Phantom with my fingers, and I think Steve does too.

I gotta quote myself because that wrathchild is not me at all!!!It is my brother and he is right cause steve doesn't use a pick

yeah, i know that the most of the people on here know stuff like that and aint stupid(i have had experience from other boards) i didnt intend to offend anyone..

and i know steve plays phantom with fingers, jut since you said you had to play Caught.. with 3 fingers, and phantom is a little faster than that one..

And on my bad english Grammar thingy: IM NOT 'KIN FROM ANY OF THOOSE COUNTRIES!! i wouldnt expect any of you to write proper norwegian.....

Phantom is a very fast bassline, but only in short bursts. The slower sections give me plenty of chances to rest, so I can easily play it with 2 fingers. Caught... is extremely fast for 8 continuous minutes without a break. I can only play about half of it with 2 fingers before my right hand starts to get tired and I have to switch to 3 fingers, so I've taken to using 3 fingers through the whole song.

What I find amazing about Steve's playing isn't merely his speed, but the length of time for which he can sustain that speed at every concert.

[!--emo&--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/wub.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'wub.gif\' /][!--endemo--] i love steve [!--emo&--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/wub.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'wub.gif\' /][!--endemo--]
