Got a hold of a Piece of Mind picturedisc....

Prowler
pick it up at a store solely because it was a picture disc

now that im playing it:

1: there are no scratches/skips on here, which is pretty damn incredible to me

2: as someone who previously had no real knowledge of Iron maiden, this sounds like a pretty kick ass album, just finished the first side and every track is bad-ass

3:picture discs are fuckin cool

i just wondered two things:

1: if the picturedisc was printed in limited numbers, is it some kind of rarity, or does every true fan have a copy of this?

2: where does Piece of Mind rank the in the Iron Maiden catalog? i understand that individually, everyone has a different favorite, i just mean is it considered top3, top5, top10 by the masses?

Pictures discs aren't common, but they aren't exactly rare either.
Piece of Mind is definitely in the top half of the catalog and consensus on here is likely top five.

Original 1983 picture disc: rare. Reissued picture disc from a few years ago: not rare.

And yes. It's a good album.

Picture discs tend to have lots of surface noise. I don't like them.

You got one of the recent picture disc reissues. It was released in 2012, so it's not a rarity.

Piece of Mind is my favourite 80's album. The mainstream opinion among Maiden and metal fans is that the first seven albums are canonic listening, and Piece of Mind is usually rated just below Powerslave and Seventh Son. This board will exhibit some different opinions including mine, but yeah, it's commonly rated among the top 5 or top 3 albums.

Piece of Mind is my favorite Maiden album. Not a single bad moment.

Perun, its definitely from 1983....I only pick up records from bargain bin/thrift store type places, i wouldnt have thought a 2012 would be in there....plus, now that i have had a little education of the subject, i noticed the cat# SEAX 12306. They dont keep the same cat# on reissues, do they?
