I voted for the following 5:

  • Phantom of the Opera: Iron Maiden's first real classic. A great composition, awesome live (I really hope they'll play it again!), great solos.
  • Children of the Damned: Love the melodies and the horror lyrics - and again, a nice solo by H.
  • Hallowed Be Thy Name: I have mentioned
  • Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Harris's magnum opus, contains my favourite part in any Maiden song. Great re-telling of Coleridge's poem, many different riffs, one of the best solos from both H and Dave.
  • Brighter Than A Thousand Suns. Because I'm a lot brighter than thousand_suns.

Honorable mentions go to Stranger in a Strange Land, Only The Good Die Young and Adrian Smith.

MITRM, TTAL, TAATG, BTATS and Adrian Smith.

Chosen on the basis of having cool acronyms.

Oh, and they're great songs.

And Adrian Smith.

And Adrian Smith again, because he's Adrian Smith, dammit.

Phantom, Hallowed, Rime and Sign of the Cross are certainties. For the fifth take a pick from Murders In The Rue Morgue, Children Of The Damned, Caught Somewhere In Time, To Tame A Land, These Colours Don't Run, Stranger In A Strange Land and Lord of the Flies.

I chose These Colours Don't Run because it exited too early in the survivor series and it has the best bridge and chorus combo around.

As for the rest of the choices Hallowed be thy Name is an all time favorite. Phantom has the genius solos, the middle section is just awesome. I love Rime's first 6 to 7 minutes and the solos again are brilliant. Sign of the Cross for it's atmosphere, lyrics, chorus and killer instrumental section after the solos.

I vote Beast, Time, Madness, Shadows and Breeg.
Breeg is certainly my firm favourite among these five while my least favourite goes to Madness.

Ooof, that was hard. Hallowed, Rime, Sign of the Cross, Out of the Shadows, and Adrian Smith won out.

I guess I just like the most epic things out of that list, and those that sound great live. Ever since I heard Rime in Stockholm I've counted it among the best songs Maiden ever wrote just because the performance was so damn fantastic. Fear of the Dark could potentially go in there instead of Adrian Smith but then again, what would Iron Maiden be without Adrian Smith?
