Pirates die strangely after taking Iranian ship

A tense standoff has developed in waters off Somalia over an Iranian merchant ship laden with a mysterious cargo that was hijacked by pirates.

Somali pirates suffered skin burns, lost hair and fell gravely ill “within days” of boarding the MV Iran Deyanat. Some of them died.

Andrew Mwangura, the director of the East African Seafarers’ Assistance Programme, told the Sunday Times: “We don’t know exactly how many, but the information that I am getting is that some of them had died. There is something very wrong about that ship.”

It's hardly a secret that the Somalian coast is one of the world's most dangerous places and most active piracy areas. But I don't think anybody would have counted with this.
I don't know enough about the South African "Times", but I hardly believe this is a hoax. The big question is - what was in that ship and why was it headed for Iran? And whatever it was, how likely is it that it is being used for civilian purposes? And where did it come from? And who got the money?

We don't know if that ship was heading to Iran.  Many foreign nations register their vessels as Iranian because it's cheap and you can circumvent lots of shipping laws by doing that.  But if it was, sure sounds like radiation poisoning to me.

It's really just a matter of counting one and one together, mate. Pirates captured a ship with an Iranian flag and died of radiation poisoning (which is more than obvious).

Yes, true, but my point is that many countries who are also seeking uranium, plutonium, etc. use Iranian flagged vessels.  Though the most likely destination for the cargo is Iran, it could easily be elsewhere, say, Libya.

Which would actually make things worse if you stop to think about it.

Well, that's my point.  At least in Iran we have a general idea what they're up to.  What scares me is that radioactive material could be being shipped somewhere that we have no freaking clue.

Wow gives a whole new meaning to 'Toxic bootay!'... if that had a meaning to begin with.
