Something been bugging me for years, went to a pub called the shoulder of mutton in hebden bridge yorkshire, really good nights there listening to heavy rock bands, one night a group called iron maiden came on, and i remember thinking great name for a band. anyone out there know if it was THE MAIDEN. it was 1975, seems to me they were along way from home if it was them.

Wait, let me make sure I understand you correctly. You remember the event clearly enough to recall the name of the pub over 30 years later, but never noticed in all those intervening decades if "the" Iron Maiden was the band you saw then?

I mean, come on. It's not like they've never been photographed. Sure, if it was 1975, the only guy who was in both that lineup and the current one is Steve Harris - but aside from getting more wrinkles in his face over the years, he's always looked like, well, Steve Harris.

Let's be fair, SMX- you can't remember everybody's face. But maybe the trousers can help :D

It's in Steve's diary. Anyone cares to check on the Early Years DVD?

The diary is mislabelled. It should read "1976".

Besides, I strongly suspect it to be a fake...

I too used to frequent the Shoulder of Mutton (it was in Blackshawhead, not to be confused with the one in Hebden Bridge town centre), and vividly remember a band called Iron Maiden performing. Whether they had anything to do with a well known band currently using the same name, I do not know, but even now, i recall they were heavy and superb.
