AFTERGLOW!!!
Guitarist John Petrucci of progressive metal giants DREAM THEATER has issued the following update:

"Hey, everyone. Wanted to quickly let you all know what's been happening lately.

"I know that the big question is 'Who is the new DREAM THEATER drummer?' I also realize that some people are getting frustrated waiting for the news.

"Well, auditions went great and we do have someone but we are spending some time getting everything in order before making an official announcement. Let me just say that we are all incredibly excited about our choice and just bursting at the seams to let the world know!

Hmmmmm, I wonder who it is.

Update: I have better intelligence now.

It will be Mike Mangini.

Credits:
Annihilator, Set The World On Fire album
Extreme, Waiting For The Punchline album
Steve Vai's live drummer

Mangini is a drum teacher at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Recently, he cancelled all his upcoming classes with no explanation.

I've only seen this dude with Vai and judging by that I doubt that he can replace Portnoy. He might has shown more of his talents playing with other bands though.
Is that from a reliable source or just guessing?

As an extreme Extreme fan i would be quite happy to see Mike in DT. Portnoy is better but there is only person who could match his playing as well as beat it and that's Neil Pert.

I wish you could tell me where I could find some better intelligence... I keep getting told I need to find some. :S

That aside, and back to topic, seems like an OK match, though I'll end up missing Portnoy in DT. He's definitely one of my favorite drummers.

Well Mike Portnoy kicked himself in the ass with this one. He wanted to spend time with Avenged and thought the other guys would wait around for him. Now both Avenged and DT moves on without him. Guess he was not so irreplaceable as he probably thought himself.

Looking forward to hearing the first DT album without Mike, they definitly will have something to proove now.  Everyones attention when hearing the new album will be on the drums, so hopefully they find one who can live with that attention  B)

There are rumours that Marco Minnermann (Paul Gilbert, Satriani, Kreator and others) is going to be the man.

End of January and still no official announcement. If they already decided start December last year...then whats the hold up? Announce alreadddyyy
