Doogie White (Ex-Rainbow) recounts his Iron Maiden audition story

He's a great singer, love the album he did with Rainbow. Have also enjoyed his live gigs with Schenker, though have to say I've been a bit disappointed in the albums they have done together.

Must have been about ten years ago now, but one evening in Edinburgh I saw both him and Blaze play in separate venues, and it was quite remarkable the difference in vocal abilities of the two of them. As much as I love the two Bayley Maiden albums, I do wonder why he got the nod.
 
Doogie is a tremendous singer. I saw him with Michael Schenker the other year and was seriously impressed. It didn't click who he was until I heard him speak, and suddenly remembered a tale about a Scottish singer who didn't get the Maiden job either because he was Scottish(!) or because he sounded too much in the same vein as Bruce. I nominated him for the Best Band Ever survivor.

Edit: reading what they got him to sing in his audition, I don't think those songs would be the best for his vocal style (or Bruce's for that matter). To me, those songs would easily give Blaze the edge.
 
Nicko and Janick aren't short, 184 and 180. Janick could be considered on the short side and Nicko on average side in Forostar's country or mine, but UK, and especially their generation (!) they're not short at all.

I actually think the height requirement is bullshit because it doesn't stand out that much, Eddie Cassilas is tall, Roy Z isn't also on the short side, Guru also, and Bruce didn't look that off, at all on stage with them.

We have a local band where the singer is noticably shorter than Bruce and the rest of the guys are 185+ at least. Now that looks off on the stage.

Nothing whatsoever to do with Doogie White, but I thought Janick was taller than that. For their generation they're average, but definitely a lot smaller than today's twentysomethings.
 
Today's teens are freaking large. I walk the streets and see teen girls that could literally eat from the top of my head. They're like 2 meters tall.
 
Considering all that it greatly bothers me I'm only 178 cm. That's what you get for being a picky eater as a kid, I guess. I definitely had the genes to be way taller considering everyone else in my immediate family is way taller than me.

But hey, Bruce Dickinson is a whole 10 cm shorter than I am! Amazing.
