Do I have original CD

Hello eddieheads......

Recently I've got a Powerslave CD (CAPITOL records) and I'm not sure if it is original or not....everything is fine but there is one thing I can't be sure about:

Friend tells me that surface of upper side (the one with text) should be smooth but instead when I go over letters I can feel them like they're a bit higher then surface of cd if you get me what Im saying.

So If not problem can you take your Powerslave cd and just touch the cd and tell me do you feel its rough when you cross letters with finger/hand....

Can't explain it better hope you get it.

Original WHAT? Original mastering, or original CD pressing? According to Discogs, which is unofficial but reasonably well informed and reliable, the first CD pressing was by EMI Germany (not Capitol, which is a U.S. label) and manufactured at PolyGram in West Germany in 1984.

In answer to your specific question, on my copy (1980s release, Capitol CDP 7 46045 2) the lettering on the disc itself is raised slightly. If your copy has this same catalog number on the spine, it is the original American mastering (i.e., not the 1998 remaster, which is an abomination).

For more information than you could possibly want on the subject of the Iron Maiden CD releases, including the differences between European, Japanese and U.S. masterings, see here:

Bottom line: any 1980s release is going to sound quite good, most of the 1995 Castle label 2-CD reissues sound pretty good, and any CD reissue from 1998 until today will sound awful.

Mine says CDP 546045, almost the same. Also slightly raised lettering on the disc.

Discogs doesn't list "546045" exactly, but I think I might have gotten this CD through the Colombia House record club. Mine also has a blank space where the barcode is supposed to be, and "7 446045 2" looks like a barcode number with those spaces.

I did not mean original CD pressing, was just wondering if I got the original cd from Capitol records. I want to be sure it wasn't some idiot just burning music onto CD and printing covers on them to sell them as factory releases. a.k.a selling fake crap.

I do have CDP 7 46045 2 stamped, the one from 80s and judging by codings, look of cd and box and afterall, the audio quality I would say it's original but my friend insists its fake because of raised letters on surface (he thinks its due to poor printing job of "scammer"). eh....

Yes, I concur with SMX. Mine has raised printing and is the genuine article. Your friend is talking nonsense. It may be HIS copy that is the bootleg!
