Der Führer's Face

Perun, I think it's illegal for you to watch that.

For those of us in the free world, we can laugh our arses off. Frikken hilarous.

It's sad how the USA, once the greatest bastion and assurance of freedom in the world, has changed since this time.

You're right Duke, it probably is.

As for me, I'm sorry, I love Donald Duck, but I couldn't laugh about it. Why? I felt somewhat uneasy with the light-hearted presentation of nazis, and the ending didn't cut it for me either. Propaganda remains propaganda, no matter who issues it. And I just feel uneasy with that.

Or maybe I have just lost my sense of humour recently, as other posts here might attest.

I think that sort of thing is really interesting, how the bounds of acceptability have changed.

Has anyone seen the Bugs Bunny cartoon when he takes on the Japanese? It was made in world war 2 and doesn't get shown anymore because of the rather unpleasant sterotypes of Japan/japanese people. Episode is called "Bugs Bunny nips the nips" apparently.

Bah. It's hardly any better than the anti-Semitic crap that the Nazi camp distributed among their citizens during the Third Reich's reign.

Incidentally, BD, I've always wondered just what you've been doing on YouTube to find all these random videos. If it's not 'kvlt', 'gr1m' or 'n3cro' you're searching for, it's bloody Nazis! Perun, just so you know, this is a World War II propaganda film, not something from after then. Which helps to explain why the Nazis are shown so jovially. When you're fighting a war, it helps to show the public that your foes are total tools...

So in short, yes, it is propaganda. But I think that you have to remember that propaganda in general is going to be aimed at people of a lower intelligence quotient than you, or I, or many of the other people here. We're smart enough to seek the truth behind issues. Propaganda only effects those in the lower parts of the educated bracket - or, I should say, it only usually does, and it's especially effective down there. I'm not going to say we're all immune to it.

I guess my point is that it's alright to be cynical, mate. But stop being so cynical, or you'll end up like Maverick...

Fine, good. OK. The only problem is, I hate propaganda in all forms, no matter who issues/issued it. I may be over-sensitive when it comes to this topic, especially considering nazis, but it simply hurts me to see that the Americans were no better than the nazis in this relation.

As Black Dragon would say, they don't make 'em like that anymore [img src=\"style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/sleep.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"-_-\" border=\"0\" alt=\"sleep.gif\" /]

Per, how do you wake up in the morning? I too dislike propaganda, but I accept it as a fact of life...which it most assuredly is. But part of the fun of propaganda is sorting through the lies and figuring out the truth.

I don't accept propaganda. I think it is needless and disgusting. I think it should be fought against.

*sigh* You live in a bubble Perun... a nice big pink one...

Why that? I know my thoughts are not compatible with the world we live in. But that doesn't mean I don't have my opinion.

Propaganda made millions of men sign away their lives expecting A fun game, Im with perun on this one

More propaganda

I strongly hope that was a spoof video; if that was real propoganda, then the Muslim youth are more gullible than an American n00b who's just been told Maiden are only going to play coffee shops on their US tour (hey-it wasn't me tormenting him [img src=\"style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/happy.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\"^_^\" border=\"0\" alt=\"happy.gif\" /]). Seriously, though, the trouble with propoganda is that it's all well and good being an objective observer and recognising what's real and what's clearly fake, but the reality is that when propoganda is used effectively, it need only be slightly convincing to achieve its goal-that of altering the populace's opinions and creating prejudices. Things really haven't changed much since the Second World War-nowadays, the propoganda is subtler and instead of being directed against a particular group of people, it's used to promote the various governments supposedly looking out for our best interests. Nowadays, we just call it 'spin'.

Well Silky, Joseph Goebbels said, "The essence of propaganda consists in winning people over to an idea so sincerely, so vitally, that in the end they will succumb to it utterly and can never escape from it".

Isn't it funny the way this topic ties in nicely with Orwell's "1984"? If we tell people things over and over they are bound to start believing it, just like the government in 1984 convinced it's people they were fighting a war but then change their opposition and the people don't even notice.

I'm sure Maverick will havbe plenty to say about this link but unfortunately, I forget most of the stuff in 1984 and can't comment any further. The fact is that propaganda controlled by the government has the power over us - just like "Der Fuhrer's Face" must have had on kiddies during the 1940s [img src=\"style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/wink.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\";)\" border=\"0\" alt=\"wink.gif\" /]
