DEEP PURPLE have set "Haunted" as the first single from their forthcoming album, "Bananas" (view cover artwork here), due in Europe on August 25 through EMI Records. The cut, which will be released to radio stations on August 4, was performed during the band's most recent European tour and is being described as a "slowie."

The follow-up to 1998's "Abandon" will contain the following cuts:

01. House of Pain
02. Sun Goes Down
03. Haunted
04. Razzle Dazzle
05. Silver Tongue
06. Walk On
07. Pictures of Innocence
08. I've Got Your Number
09. Never A Word
10. Bananas
11. Doing It Tonight
12. Contact Lost

The album, which was recorded in Los Angeles with KID ROCK producer Michael Bradford, reportedly utilizes a variety of styles and elements, including female back up singers, synths, effects, harmonica etc. but done "tastefully" and ultimately sounding very much like DEEP PURPLE.

Earlier this year, former Deep Purple keyboardist Jon Lord performed a new composition — actually a work in progress — titled "Air on the Blue String" at "Zermatt Unplugged". Swiss TV filmed the show and you can watch the new track at JonLord.org.

"Air on the Blue String" was in part inspired by a conversation Jon Lord had with cellist Matthew Barley about classical musicians and improvisation. Barley played cello on the Durham Concerto and is a teacher as well as a cellist.

Commented Jon Lord: "Matthew's a great believer in improvisation. He's very interested in taking young classical musicians out of the conservatoire mindset and trying to make them think in a bigger picture. Many of them leave music school as brilliant technicians but with not much idea about how to play anything other than exactly what is written on the page."

I love both Mk. 2 and 3 of Deep Purple. In fact I know Im in the minority on this one, but I think  that Stormbringer is almost as good as Burn is.

So, how funny

a week ago in some Russian web-page I saw headline: Deep Purple recording new album. I just jumped but.... when I opened the article, it was linked to this topic
