Cathedral

I think that if Maiden had played their cards right, they could have done something really good with their cover artist and the Dance Of Death cover wouldn't be such a pile of manure. Have you seen the cover of Cathedral's The Carnival Bizzare? The details and general feel of it are cool! One of my favourite albums sleeves! Along with Carcass' Reek Of Putrefication. Yeah, your right about the Dance Of Death cover! It's just simply naff.

The cover was made by the Cathedral artist. Just check out the background. The poor bloke was so cheesed off that he asked the Maiden lot not to include his name in the artwork credits.

Shame on you! Your punishment will be 10 'Hail H' and 15 'H Prayer'. Go in peace, my son. [!--emo&:P--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/tongue.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'tongue.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

Well I've just checked them out but I will be getting more of them! Another great band with no exposure, but I'm used to that now, with the media overhyping all those cookie cutter crap bands (no I'm not giving any names, they know who they are) to high hell. Nice to know Cathedral are being appreciated! [!--emo&:)--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/smile.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'smile.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

How dare you cast Edguy, Gamma Ray, Rhapsody and Cradle of Filth in the same lot as Korn and Slipknot? Korn and Slipnot = Crap. Edguy, Gamma Ray, Rhapsody and Cradle of Filth = Not Crap. Decent even. For one thing they are Power/symphonic metal bands, NOT Stoner/Doom metal, so you can't really compare them if they are not even the same sub-genre. It's like comparing the Beatles and BB King. Korn and Slipknot are pop metal crap that should have never existed while the othersa are very good groups.

Well I have to say I agree with you in the sense that they are not inovators. But you have to keep in Mind Gamma Ray was founded by Kai Hansen, co-founder of Helloween, one of the most influencial bands in metal, so his vision continues in Gamma Ray, so again, I wouldn't include this particular band in that category. However, Edguy is a Helloween clone and they are no inovators but they are talented and they do have good material.

While Maiden was one of the bands that inovated and brought something new to Metal, their sound has changed little (once in SIT and SSOASS and again with blaze). If you are waiting for the next Maiden or Sabbath or Rush good luck because you won't find them. They are already out there, the Next Helloween are Hammerfall, Edguy, etc, the Next Maiden is already out there as well as the next Stratovarius (Sonata Arctica to name one). The "next" whatever won't be like the last band, it will be its own, an inovator. So happy hunting.

Just because they don't inovate doesn't mean they are crap. They are still original in what they bring to their music. Bands that are pigs to me are the ones that sell themselves (Metallica post black album, Korn, Slipknot) rather than write good metal (Edguy, Hammerfall, Rhapsody).

oh ok, we agree on that then. That's what I meant when I said the Next Maiden or whatever is already out there. In that case I need to check out this Cathedral you speak of [!--emo&:D--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/biggrin.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'biggrin.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

Forest of Equilibrium is their first album and is a very slow, trudging album, not to say that it's boring, it's just slow and filled with pain. The Ethereal Mirror and The Carnival Bizzare are Stoner/Doom albums with 70s influences, especially good old Sabbath. Hell, even on the song Utopian Blaster on The Carnival Bizzare, Tony Iommi appears as a guest musician and plays some solos. Not to say that Garry "Gaz" Jennings isn't good either. A band well worth checking out! Oh, and Onhell, I do agree that a band doesn't have to very groundbreaking in order to be good, as long as they don't do it to sell themselves. For example, I had a pizza for lunch, nothing new or groundbreaking, but it was tasty. Evolution and progression is good, but as long if it's for the music and personal satisfaction, not those little pieces of paper that make the world go round.

Nice! It's interesting how the early line-up of Napalm Death had the founding members of two of the most kick ass metal bands ever. Thanks for the info!
