When best guitarists game ends, best bassist game starts.

Suggest 10-20 bassists you'd like to see in the game, but try to suggest only famous and well-known players.

Chris Squire (Yes) http://youtu.be/9ln9T76ieaA
Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath)
Steve Harris (Iron Maiden)
Greg Lake (Emerson, Lake & Palmer)
Geddy Lee (Rush)
Roger Waters (Pink Floyd)

There is few that came into my mind now.

Without listing bassists from favourite bands etc... these are people I think have talent (not nessecarily shown on albums but has been proven AT SOME POINT)

Geddy Lee
Billy Sheehan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30YT0cG2EkE (best video I can find that isnt a guitar duel with paul gilbert.. altho they are worth watching!)
Geezer Butler
Stu Hamm
Steve Harris
Nikki Sixx
Michael Anthony
John Entwhistle
David Ellefson
Tom Hamilton
Jack Bruce
Phil Lynott
Roger Glover
Glenn Hughes
Lemmy Kilmister
Wayne Darley (Annihilator, I don't really know much about them and definnitely not about him.. but Alison Hell's bassline is nasty so at least he's got evidence of talent :P)

Maybe..... 'favourite band' type bassists
Dusty Hill (ZZ Top)
Ian Hill

(periodically edited to include videos if/as i find them)

If you want, post a YouTube video of bass player "showcasing his abilities", be it a song or a bass solo.

(MFC knew it 'cause I told him that on chat)

Markus Großkopf (or Grosskopf) (Helloween)

This guy possesses a phenomenal combination of speed and melodic feel.
One of the best and most original bass players I've heard in metal.

Pfft, out of all my suggestions to comment on you chose that one  :P How did I guess that would happen.

He may play with a pick (which I know you see as just pure evil :P) but he's still a fair cut above those people who play basslines consisting of 3 notes ^^

Giants that have not been mentioned:

James Jamerson (Motown house band, most Motown records)
Bootsy Collins (James Brown, Parliament/Funkadelic)
Paul McCartney (Beatles)
Jaco Pastorius (Weather Report, amazing solo albums, deserves to win just for Portrait Of Tracy)
Stanley Clarke (Return To Forever, solo)

Jamerson, Jaco and Clarke are the guys actual bass players respect. They're absolute gods.

Jazz giants:

Charles Mingus
Oscar Pettiford
Paul Chambers
Ron Carter
I will be sad if Charles Mingus and Paul Chambers are not included. Amazing players.

Also required:
John Myung
Geddy Lee
Les Claypool

Also,I don't care how flashy he is, Billy Sheehan will get my vote very early. Fair warning.

Martin Turner (Wishbone Ash)

I'm writing through cellphone so I can't add links but just listen to Sometime World's bassline and you'll see his magic.

Great suggestion! His work in e.g. Sometime World is really brilliant. Here the link:

So are the other two really. I'm afraid jazz musicians won't get far but these dudes kick elephant butt.
