A couple years ago, we had this short lived tradition of spending a week discussing a certain band. It just randomly stopped after awhile (my fault ) but lately I've been itching for some good music discussions and would love to get this going again! So to start out, I've thrown a bunch of bands into a poll who are either popular in general or particularly popular on this board. I've also thrown in some genres! It'd also be fun to spend a week discussing certain genres as well.

Of course these aren't the only bands/genres eligible, so if there are any bands/genres I've left out that you want to discuss, feel free to nominate them here! And if you see a nomination you like, make sure to 'like' their post or reply to it or whatever so that I can add it to the list. As long as there are at least a couple people who want a certain band, I'll make sure it goes on the list.

Spending a week were we dig into some obscure NWOBHM would be cool (Demon, Angel Witch, Warfare... that's the stuff).

EDIT: Also I'd like to nominate Manilla Road! These guys are awesome.

Classic Manilla Road (1983-1990):
Necropolis, from the album Crystal Logic (1983).

Mystification, from the album Mystification (1987).

The Deluge, from the album The Deluge (1986).

New Manilla Road (2001-present, they now have Mark Shelton [classic Manilla Road singer] and this guy named Bryan Patrick sharing vocal duties):
Into the Maelström, from the album Playground of the Damned (2011).

Tomb of the Serpent King/Butchers of the Sea from the album Voyager (2008, this album only features Mark Shelton on vocals).

Why not just talk about bands in threads already started for them or start a new, general discussion thread for ones that don't currently have a thread? And why just make it a week long? For example, we have a Sabaton thread which has gotten quite a bit of action, but it's an ongoing thread that doesn't stop after a week at to me, it would make the most sense to keep talking about them there instead of starting a new thread for it and stopping in a week.

A weekly event is more likely to draw attention from ones who are not %100 familiar with the band. If the weekly discussion of a band that doesn't have a thread gets enough conversation going, I'm sure a thread would be started by someone.

I'd love to have a Depeche Mode week but it's synthpop so I don't know about the attention it'd get.

Yeah, having a weekly series would be cool. (Dityn DJ James silently wonders what it would be like to talk to other people that actually like Manilla Road)

I'd be up for Depeche Mode. I don't listen to Manilla Road but if there is enough interest I'd do it.

Because a dedicated week of discussion will allow more general talk for the band, most of the band threads we have now (which are very few anyway) mainly, if not exclusively, discuss what the band is currently up to. Also, a week has proven to be more than enough. Usually discussion dies down a few days early and if anyone wants to continue the discussion after the week has ended, there is nothing prohibiting them from doing so.

I'll just retitle the thread to be a general discussion thread about the band after the initial discussion has died down.

Ah, I totally get it now and that's a really good idea to help bands get more fans. I'm up for Sabaton of course as well as Iced Earth and Dimmu Borgir.

I voted a few, but Metallica is probably the one I'd be down for the most. Then I can defend Reload as a solid album.
