Does anyone know what (non-maiden) songs or albums each of the band members (including Clive, Dianno and Blaze) favourites are.

I remember reading somewhere that Blaze got into music after he heard Children Of The Sea by Black Sabbath.

Any sensible replys appreciated as this for a project I am undertaking.

Cheers.

I already posted this over at iromaiden.ord bb, thought you chaps may be also to help

I don't know about specific songs or albums, but Steve has frequently cited Thin Lizzy, Jethro Tull and especially Wishbone Ash as bands who strongly influenced his songwriting and the type of sound he wanted Maiden to have. He has also cited Mike Rutherford of Genesis as a bass influence.

Steve Harris: "All I knew was that I wanted to play hard, aggresive music with lots of melody and lots of time changes. And that's pretty much what I did I think. I was really influenced by heavy stuff like Sabbath, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin. But I also really loved stuff like Free, Wishbone Ash and The Who and progressive bands like Jethro Tull, Yes, early Genesis. I wanted to incorporate all that stuff. Lizzy wasn't so much the influence on the guitars. I liked their stuff to a point but it was mainly Wishbone Ash. I know they weren't as well known over there. If you listen to an old album called Argus you can really hear it."

He has also cited Chris Squire of Yes as a major influence on his bass playing several times.

Bruce Dickinson's most frequently mentioned vocal influences are Ian Gillan and Arthur Brown. He also often cites Aqualung by Jethro Tull, Made in Japan by Deep Purple, the first Sabbath album, II by Zeppelin and Rising by Rainbow as his favourite albums. The record that got him into rock/metal was Purple's In Rock when he was about 13.

I'll see what I can find about the other members.

I think I have read in a few places that Steve really likes Golden Earring too. That's why they covered Kill Me Ce Soir for a B-Side. I've also read that Steve was/is a big Montrose fan (again they covered I've got the Fire).

If you have the Early Days DVD, go to the bonus feature of Steve's Diary. Its quite interesting as he mentions some bands he was into at the time he was getting Maiden together, he even mentions some gigs he went to see. The specifics elude me right now though.
