Well,  i have a couple of albums, the quite surprising "Holy Land" and "Holy Live" (and at some point i have heard Angels Cry). But that's it. I don't know much about them in this decade (or anything after Holy Land, really, i don't know why i lost interest).

By the way, this topic should be on "Metalfans Forums".

I heard Holy Land, and thought it was pretty good. The keyboard riff from the title song just stays in your head forever.

LOVE Angra!!! Been listening to them and promoting them (here and elsewhere) for a while now. I like all their material, but quite frankly I prefer the revamped line-up after Matos left and Edu joined the band. Rebirth and Temple of Shadows are AMAZING albums, some of the best metal in recent years.

Great stuff! I just checked out a few songs from the Rebirth album. They are somewhat reminiscent of Helloween to me.

I'm now listening to their new album.Arising Thunder,Rage of Waters, Monster in Her Eyes and Weakness Of a Man clicked on the first listen. It sounds like there's not a bad moment in the album.

Somewhat? They wouldn't be around without 'em . :)

Angra's musicianship is beyond Helloween's, the neo-classical element is blatantly obvious, specially in their earlier work.

I admit that I don't know many Angry songs, but it would take a lot to convince me. The bass playing in Helloween is very high skilled, and the Germans have always had mighty guitar solists in their ranks with Hansen/Grapow/Gerstner. Give Better Than Raw a swing again and you'll hear some excellent drumming and riffing as well. And Kiske is skilled too.

But this is a different discussion.

I still think that Angra was inspired and influenced by Helloween, even if they have taken a more progressive direction.

Oh, I'm not saying Helloween's musicianship sucks. I agree that it's always been really good, specially on Better than Raw. But Angra's is better. Well, I guess that's subjective, but IMO it is.
