An apology and a lesson to be learned...

Travis The Dragon

AFTERGLOW!!!
About my recent ban, I have the following to say:

First off, I'm not trying to make excuses. I of course take FULL responsibility for my actions.

I would like to apologize to the mods for sending someone a link to copyrighted material through PM on this forum. I had been awake for 18 hours on only 2
hours of sleep and didn't realize that I clicked the PM button instead of the member's email.
Of course, it does not justify what I did, but it teaches me a VERY important lesson that I must be VERY careful of what I click when sending
something to a member on here. I truly enjoy being here and do NOT want to fully lose my membership for life. Anyway, I just wanted to express my deepest
apologies for what I did. Thank you for your time. :)

No. You missed the point.

We didn't read your PMs. I hate to bust this illusion, but the mods can't do that.

The rules forbid arranging trades of illegal material through this forum. We don't care if you actually trade the files or not. Using this forum to arrange such trades is against our rules. Even the appearance of such usage can get Maidenfans into legal trouble.

What this means for everyone is:
1. Please don't ask for someone to send you files of officially released material. Bootlegs and other unofficial stuff is OK, but copyrighted recordings are a huge no-no.
2. If someone does ask, do not use our forum to arrange the transfer of files. Do not give links to downloads. Do not involve Maidenfans in the slightest illegal activity, please.

By the way, no one knew you were banned until you posted it just now.

Do you really want a public answer to that question? We don't usually discuss moderation actions publicly, to preserve members' privacy. That's why no one knew you were banned. We rarely announce such things, unless it's a celebration when banning a troll.

I'm quite surprised that was even allowed.

Before this year, Maidenfans was always a small site. We were not prepared for the level of traffic when the leak hit. LC told me he did ban some people, but he was the only mod on duty at the time and couldn't keep up.

We haven't discussed it publicly, but the entire moderator squad was very displeased with what happened. But we felt that to be fair, we'd have to ban most of the forum. So we let it go, and we'll have new measures in place whenever the next album leaks.

In other words, the leak thread was the unfortunate exception that got out of our control. The rules are now being enforced correctly again.

Could I just butt in for a while here since I have a question that's a bit in line with what I think happened in the OP's case?

On the guitar solos thread, I recently posted a mediafire download link to three mp3 files. What those mp3 files contain are the solos of Janick, Adrian and Dave from TFF, which I stitched together for the purpose of analyzing their styles/tones on the album and shared so that anyone interested could also listen to it. Is that considered a violation similar to what you're saying, SMX?

Your stuff is just fine, vala. What you posted won't satisfy someone who is seeking the original, copyrighted files. Your edits changed it into "unofficial" material.
