A commercial that should be banned

The other day I saw a commercial for a chain of electronics store. It started very grim, shortly describing the effects that global warming has on the world and especially Romania ( we have experienced our first torandos in our history this year, pretty scary if you're not used to them, plus this year, we have experienced the worst floodings in our history), saying that the consequences could be felt as soon as 2006. Then, a jovial voice sais that if you shop at Flanco (the shop in cause) you don't have to pay till 2006.

The message of the commercial is "Fuck it all, just come and shop at our place". I find this very serious, as informing the population about twhat global warming does is a very important task in stoping it, and these fuckards just go around telling people not to mind it, just come shop at our place... Not only does this makes the people dumber, but also encourages dumb consumerism...

I agree, that sounds a f*cking tasteless and desperate commercial. They think that by burying you're head in consumerism, everything will turn all right. I think it's offensive that they can just make a serious problem go away like that. No wonder why people think that the problem is just going to sort itself out, they think that "someone else" will sort it all out while they're buying frivolous products. No wonder why people think all these horrible things that happen in the world are just a joke. They've been numbed by all the consumerism. Sorry about the floods mate, hope you or anyone close to you didn't get hurt [!--emo&:(--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/sad.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'sad.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

News on the matter: The commercial has been banned, but for tottaly diferent reasons. The authority that controls everything on the TV in Romania, came to the conclusion that the writting on the screen on commercials such as this one is to small, and it is not shown long enough to be read. So untill that is fixed, the commercial is off the broadcast waves. They also banned the new commercial for the only model of the se manufacturer of cars from Romania, Dacia, because it shows it crossing on a red light, thus encouraging "anti-social and dangerous behaviour" [!--emo&--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/blink.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'blink.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

I agree, that advert does sound quite wrong and shouldn't really be shown.

However, any publicity is good publicity and you mentioning the shop's name in your post is more advertising for them... That's just what they want I'm afraid [!--emo&:(--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/sad.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'sad.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

Without wanting to trivialize this disgusting marketing "gag", but there was a Simpsons Halloween episode once where huge advert signs went berzerk, and they got defeated because the people started ignoring them.

That's the key- ignore the commercial. Well, it would be the key if everyone did that. Even a boycott, as harmful as it may be to the store, would be publicity.

I'm sorry for restarting a stale topic but I think that advertisements are getting less tasteful every year. Nowadays you can get away with anything in ads (Nobbys Nutts anybody?) This advertisement has however, sank to a new low. Making a joke out of the irresponsibility of man and global warming is a terrible thing but by this topic even being posted on the web, it is getting people's attention and therefore doing what it's supposed to do, sell products.
Insensitive definitely, but very effective.
