This thread is mainly for people who use iTunes - or any other software which lets you rate your music from 1 to 5 stars. I am curious: what Maiden songs have you given the top rating in your collection?

A glance at mine shows...
Most of the songs from Brave New World and Live After Death
About half of the songs from Dance Of Death, The Number Of The Beast and Virtual XI
About a third of the songs from Piece Of Mind, A Matter Of Life And Death, Powerslave and The X Factor
One or two songs from each remaining album, and zero songs from No Prayer For The Dying

On the other hand, where are you lowest rated songs? I gave only one star to most of NPFTD and 4 songs from FOTD.

Windows Vista explorer lets me rate my songs too. Five-star songs are:

Prowler
Remember Tomorrow
Phantom Of The Opera
Strange World
The Ides Of March
Prodigal Son
Murders In The Rue Morgue
Killers
Children Of The Damned
22 Acacia Avenue
The Number Of The Beast
Hallowed Be Thy Name
Where Eagles Dare
Revelations
Flight Of Icarus
Die With Your Boots On
The Trooper
Still Life
To Tame A Land
Aces High
2 Minutes To Midnight
Flash Of The Blade
Powerslave
Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
Caught Somewhere In Time
Wasted Years
Heaven Can Wait
Stranger In A Strange Land

Infinite Dreams
The Evil That Men Do

Only The Good Die Young
No Prayer For The Dying

Judgement Of Heaven
Blood On The World's Hands
The Edge Of Darkness

Paschendale
Face In The Sand
Journeyman
Different World
These Colours Don't Run
Brighter Than A Thousand Suns
The Longest Day
Out Of The Shadows
The Reincarnation Of Benjamin Breeg
For The Greater Good Of God

The lowest rated song is The Apparition, with one star. A handful of songs are also very low with two stars (those marked with an asterisk actually have one and a half in my book, but being the generous bloke I am, I rounded the scores up because you can only give full stars):

Gangland
The Duellists*
Back In The Village*
Hooks In You
Fear Is The Key*
Weekend Warrior
Age Of Innocence

The songs in my iTunes/iPod are like my non-existent children, I love them all equally and that is why they are on there to begin with :D

I have 49 songs, many of which are duplicates (live, etc.)  Alphabetical order:

Aces High
Afraid to Shoot Strangers
Alexander the Great
Blood Brothers
Blood on the World's Hands
Brighter than a Thousand Suns
The Clansman
Como Estais Amigos
Dance of Death
Dream of Mirrors
The Edge of Darkness
Fear of the Dark
For the Greater Good of God
Fortunes of War
Hallowed Be Thy Name
Infinite Dreams
Judgement of Heaven
The Legacy
The Longest Day
Lord of Light
No More Lies
The Nomad
Paschendale
Phantom of the Opera
Powerslave
The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg
Revelations
Rime of the Ancient Mariner
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
Sign of the Cross
The Thin Line Between Love and Hate
To Tame a Land

Mostly epics and long songs in that list, and The Number of the Beast and The Trooper at least are missing.  It's generally a requirement for a song to be long for it to get in my 5-star-list.

One star songs:
The Angel and the Gambler
Chains of Misery
The Assassin

Two star songs: about 20.  From Killers, No Prayer, and Fear of the Dark mostly.

Apart from the fact that the premise is different (five grades vs three)... yes, of course it does.

BTW, it should please you to see that only one track from No Prayer is in my low rankings. ;)

EDIT: What the heck, I need to get my mind off some of those child-molesting al-Qaeda hippies that have been pissing me off today and lately in general, so I made a general album rating based on those star ratings. I counted together all the stars each song from an album received and divided them through the number of tracks on that album to receive a score for every album. Useless statistics and calculations are fun.

Iron Maiden: 35 stars (4x5, 3x4, 1x3) - 4,375
Killers: 41 stars (4x5, 3x4, 3x3) - 4,1
The Number Of The Beast: 33 stars (4x5, 2x4, 1x3, 1x2) - 4,125
Piece Of Mind: 43 stars (7x5, 2x4) - 4,7
Powerslave: 32 stars (5x5, 1x3, 2x2) - 4
Somewhere In Time: 35 stars (4x5, 3x4, 1x3) - 4,375
Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son: 36 stars (5x5, 2x4, 1x3) - 4,5
No Prayer For The Dying: 37 stars (2x5, 3x4, 3x3, 1x2) - 3,7
Fear Of The Dark: 41 stars (4x5, 1x4, 4x3, 2x2, 1x1) - 3,416
The X Factor: 54 stars (9x5, 2x4) - 4,9
Virtual XI: 38 stars (6x5, 2x4) - 4,75
Brave New World: 45 stars (7x5, 1x4, 2x3) - 4,5
Dance Of Death: 43 stars (5x5, 1x4, 4x3, 1x2) - 3,9
A Matter Of Life And Death: 47 stars (7x5, 3x4) - 4,7

Thus, the obligatory ranking is:

1. The X Factor (4,9)
2. Virtual XI (4,75)
3. Piece Of Mind (4,7)
4. A Matter Of Life And Death (4,7)
5. Brave New World (4,5)

And, does it (still) suit this post of yours,a bit? Just curious, how songs develop.  :)

Same question to Perun and others who posted overthere.

Mostly yeah.  Probably some individual songs might have fallen or risen a bit, but most are the same.

First off I wish my windows media player had ratings out of 10, just because some of the five star ones just rise above the other five star ones.

-I have every song on Live After Death and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son as five stars. Every song on Killers is also.

-Everything on Number of the Beast, and Piece of mind are five stars with the exception of Invaders(3), Gangland(3), Sun and Steel(4), and Quest for Fire(3).

-Everything on Iron Maiden is five stars except for Running Free... Didn't like the original.

-The Deulists and Back in the Village on Powerslave fall short. Honorable mention to back in the village for being extra bad.

There, now the list shouldnt be too long.

Caught Somewhere in Time
Wasted Years
Stranger in a Strange Land
Heaven Can Wait

Sorry if this is slightly off topic, more like an alternate take on the subject. I hardly ever rank a song on iTunes, but I've had iTunes for several years and my top 10 most played are:

1) Only the Good Die Young
2) Caught Somewhere in Time
3) The Wicker Man
4) Ghost of the Navigator
5) Brave New World
6) Wildest Dreams
7) Rainmaker
8) Face in the Sand
9) Still Life
10) To Tame a Land

Makes sense that BNW and DOD songs are most played since both came out in the '00s. Only the Good and Caught SIT always end up on mixes since I usually make mixes of songs that are not on live albums. Still Life and To Tame a Land should be obvious: my favorite album is POM.

I think most of my Iron Maiden songs are 5 star except for Wildest Dreams because I hate that song. Although I recently changed the rating system I have for Maiden songs since it struck me as ridiculous that they ALL should be 5 stars with no differentiation between them. This means that I rank Maiden songs against each other and not against any other music I have on iTunes. Which is unfair to Maiden but does make sure that if I play my favorites playlist I get more variation with other artists :P.

I'll post the listing when I get back to Boston.

I'm not a big Wildest Dreams fan myself, in fact I had no use for it until recently when I realized the slow part "want to break away" as it builds it pretty classic (makes up for the weak chorus), but I was surprised it was in my top 10 most played, probably due to the fact it's the first song on the album.

With all doublings deleted, as promised my list of Maiden favorites. Its funny how some of the songs are rated 5 star on their live version but not on their studio version, so they're in here but wouldn't be otherwise (ex. Fear of the Dark, Iron Maiden).

When I feel like procrastinating hardcore I might try a hand at Per's album rating.
