I agree about Charlotte (and would add 22 Acacia Avenue, among others) - one of the worst lyrics by any band ever. Now I'm no longer 13 years old, it absolutely makes me cringe.
I'm not trying to make a case for Maiden being great poets, they've always had bad lyrics scattered through their...
I suspect the problem isn't a case of 'judge the music' as much as 'judge the lyrics'.
By the time FOTD rolled around, Maiden fans had a clear idea of what they liked about Maiden and surely that must have included the lyrics. 'Wasting Love' exemplifies the album's lyrics generally - I've just...
Nice appearance from Bruce on tonight's edition of BBC Radio 4's 'Museum Of Curiosity'.
Just finished, but should be available to 'listen again' for UK listeners.

Bruce isn't a big fan of Mr Ling, either, after his review of Tattooed Millionaire. I think this was detailed in the 'Run To The Hills' book (but might be misremembering). The 'Branston Pickle Boy' incident?
Back on topic: I was very sad to hear about Malcolm Dome's passing. His writing was a...
Bruce popped up for a brief interview snippet on this programme last Saturday. Should be available online to UK viewers - not sure about availability for rest-of-the-worlders.
Bruce bit starts at about the 22:30 mark...
I'd also considered this in light of Bruce's comments and I think he has a valid point of view.
However: surely with the current state of the world being as it is, BOTH bands should have clarified this before contracts were signed. Not blaming either camp here, but surely all this should have...
Nothing specific regarding Steve, but I did run across his Twitter feed a while ago and he's not very keen on vaccination. In fact, he doesn't seem very keen on anything (except KK Downing and Donald Trump).
I've just looked him up, he's @TonyyNewton if you want to see for yourself.
Isn't Steve good mates with Tony Newton? Because there's an example of a touring musician with some very strange (to me) ideas about all this.
Not saying that he has any influence over British Lion, but if that's the company Steve keeps.....
This is exactly what I thought when I saw that title.
Quite often, Maiden lyrics are only as good as the last thing that the writer read (or watched). Unfortunately, when the last thing Steve read is the latest edition of the Daily Mail, that process can result in some pretty bad lyrics.
I...
I wonder what Kevin Shirley's productions are like for other bands. Does he always make drummers sound like they're hammering old dustbins with baseball bats? Absolutely headache inducing, time after time.
Maiden should credit him as Kevin "Bin Man" Shirley on the album sleeve.
To give an idea of how far in advance stuff works - this week Warners are 'selling in' physical new releases for July 30th. Maiden have their own rules, sure, but they still have to play by industry rules when delivering physical product to stores. Those rules can still be bent, though, as...
Yep - I work in a record store and there's been no word from the record company yet.
They 'sell in' new releases to stores well in advance of release date in order to collate orders and ship stock in time for release.
Fingers crossed for a full album announcement, though!
I noticed that Nicko wasn't spotted at the snooker final last night (the camera has picked him out in the audience the past few years).
Was he absent on important Maiden business? :D
Yes, it would be rather shaky - and highly dependent on dates and contents. I'll have to look up the quote tonight. A good excuse to read some Maiden books again!
I might be mis-remembering this...but doesn't Steve claim somewhere that (early in his career) he put all of his song ideas in an envelope, sealed it, and mailed it to himself. The idea being that the envelope would be date-stamped in the mail and, if left sealed, would establish his dated...
This thing about "Mr. Willcock wrote new lyrics to fit in with a theatrical stunt involving a sword and fake blood", which Dennis W also moans on about in that boring audio interview on Youtube.......should Alice Cooper's lawyers get in touch with Messrs Willcock and McKay about that? Cause it...
