Yeah, the new album is an absolute scorcher. Who doesn't like a heavy metal epic about Stephen Hawking? Love the optimistic tone of the lyrics and the spectacular songwriting. Literally as soon as the first riff starts, it's like, rock on. Better than any newer band doing retro trad metal by far.
Always loved Janick being pure class in Flight 666:
"If you like our music, God bless you.
If you don't [gears up to give camera the finger]... You know what? God bless you too."
I'm honestly less worried about the veteran bands and more worried about the low-to-mid tier acts that really rely on consistent touring to make ends meet. I'm still absolutely devastated by Anathema's call for an indefinite hiatus and hope more announcements like that don't come down the fold.
Started rewatching FMA '03 last night. It's that perfect sweet spot of being a great nostalgia trip, but also still being a total masterpiece that holds up today.
Yeah, I think it's a fun entertaining mystery show to get lost in for the first two thirds, but not particularly memorable. That last third though is straight trash lol!
Enslaved has always been hit or miss for me and I've never been a huge fan, but I absolutely loved how wild the new album is and might prompt me to get more into them
