    What are your hobbies?

I have two themed versions, Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Reign of Cthulhu, because I was trying to get people who liked those themes to the table. They're supposed to be really good, light games - but we will see.  Rebellion might be a few steps too heavy for me - I mainly play games within...

    What are your hobbies?

I play guitar, read novels (mystery & SF), play board games, some light video gaming (mostly Minecraft), cook & barbecue a bit... Right now board games have been taking up most of my spare time. Ticket to Ride in various versions and expansions and Memoir '44 being the main ones, but I hope to...

    NOW WATCHING

Now watching Ørnen - en krimi-odyssé (2004-2006). Possibly the best Nordic crime drama ever produced. Does not exactly hurt that the title sequence is the single best ever in television...

    NOW WATCHING

I really tried to rewatch  House after watching The Good Doctor - same showrunner - and while it has the same kind of overall general beats and story structure, I felt the latter did everything so much better. The early seasons of House were great when they aired, but now? Convince to watch the...

    The Concert Thread

Saw Yngwie Malmsteen last night in Uppsala. Great gig and about what you expected from him. 27 Marshall amps on stage and soloing all the time through 1 hour and 40 minutes. A bucket list item checked off.

    Food thread!

Crazy weather... After the craziest winter I can remember (often leaving the house meeting temperatures below -20 C going to work, snowing like hell and then next couple of days thawing at +2 C endlessly on repeat November through March) we got no real spring, instead it switched from snow...

    Now Playing (Video Games)

Playing Hot Wheels Unleashed (2021) on the Nintendo Switch. Having a lot of fun with this one! A brilliant little arcade racing game. Love the tracks, and the game is just challenging enough.

    NOW READING

Read An Apartment in Paris (2017) by Guillaume Musso. Decent crime novel. Not great, not terrible - in between. Reads fast, which is a plus. After trying two books by this guy I get that he's very digestible, but I don't really see any greatness here. Might try another while in a reading slump.

Watched To Catch A Killer (2023). A crime thriller starring Shailene Woodley and Ben Mendelsohn. A great beginning makes way for one of the most forgettable crime-procedurals I've seen. Real shame - first 10 minutes are great. Problems are all in the script, which is even more frustrating.

    NOW WATCHING

Watched Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023). Found it to be a very positive experience and a very fun, engaging and entertaining movie. Two thumbs up from me. I'll have another, please.

Yeah, I never play online. Only same screen. Switch is great for that, lots of games that support it.

Ultimate Chicken Horse on the Nintendo Switch. If you haven't played this, it's one of my favourite multiplayer games ever.

I teach high school English in Sweden, and to pass my course my students need to reach CEFR B1 level (Intermediate English) according to the national curriculum. Ready Player One by Ernest Cline for contemporary or Animal Farm by George Orwell for classics are examples of what I would teach...

Read A Prayer for the Crown-Shy (2022) by Becky Chambers. A solarpunk novella... or if you are wondering what the hell that means; a cozy philosophical science fiction story about a human and a robot traveling around the world in a far future setting not doing much else but talking (second part...

Finished The House Across the Lake (2022) by Riley Sager. Started out as a standard, realistic thriller the premise of which we've seen countless times and turned into I-don't-know-what. It maybe works? Entertaining, nonetheless. Also read January Fifteenth (2022) by Rachel Swirsky. A novella...

Adrian, Janick and Dave's guitars and Steve's basses

If it's Janick's guitar, it seems very atypical. Tele knobs, Tele-switch on a Strat pickguard (at least)? Only thing screamin' Janick about that is the JB Jr. (or Lil' 59) bridge pickup. For me - playing a Candy Cola American Standard Strat with JB Jr:s looking like a slightly shinier and red...

    Bruce Dickinson

What are you guys smoking? Yes, it's a powerballad. But poorly baked? The lyrics are a few steps above Axl. And if "Wasted Years" is about longing for home while being on tour, this one is about having a lot of meaningless sex. I'd say that's a pretty fresh take on the power ballad. For the...

Read This is How You Lose the Time-War (2019) by Amal El-Mohtar & Max Gladstone. Interesting and headspinning science fiction. It took a while to get going despite the novella length. The epistolary format might have something to do with that, but in the end a great read. Also read Falling...

Haven't chimed in yet on the new songs, because I needed to let them settle a bit. I think they're quite good. Both of them. Was a bit put off by the production at first - I thought it would sound a lot more like Tyranny of Souls than it does, because of the same people involved. (That's my...

    Steve Harris

Yes, but they played new unreleased songs on their tours back in 2013 and 2015 and it took them until 2020 to have the second album out. I could see a new album done soon, definitely, but they have also taken a long time to get the previous ones out. Some songs on the debut were written like in...
