Maidenfans Best Albums of the Millennium: 2011

2011 sucked. I wasn’t even all that fond of my own nominee, which I won’t bother to mention. I’ll need to check out the rest of the nominees to see what I missed, if anything. EDIT: After trying out the competition I’ve actually returned to my own nominee here, Powerwolf’s Blood Of The...

Oof, blasphemy! I couldn’t disagree more. That light touch applied to such complex rhythms, and his frequent introduction of melodic percussion, gave him a very unique feel.

    Bruce Dickinson

Whatever stylistic direction it takes in the end, the songs are pretty much guaranteed to be heavy and anthemic, with a ballad or two thrown in. This has always been consistent in Bruce’s work. I don’t know anything about the songwriting styles of his new band members, other than Mistheria...

    Rush

They’ve generally been quite good about putting out blu-rays for their tours, so I’ll probably go that route, since there aren’t any shows particularly close by, and Geddy was already starting to sound a bit rough on the higher end on R40…

Their last strong studio album, IMO. Dokken’s voice was completely shot after this one. Reb Beach and Jeff Pilson made for a great songwriting team, and they reunited most recently in the band Black Swan, which have put out two albums with a third on the way next year. Their second album...

Absolute zero love for Mekong Delta with this particular crowd. Interesting, and a shame.

Here are my detailed thoughts on Mekong Delta’s Wanderer On The Edge Of Time, which was my nominee for this year. I’ll offer some brief comments here, too. This is a concept album that’s best consumed as a whole piece, rather than as a collection of songs. It goes through a number of...

An amazing album. Completely eclipses the movie itself.

    Bruce Dickinson

Fair enough, but I expected to see more people fully represent! There were definitely older fans there — saw a couple who looked like a typical obese grandma and grandpa sitting calmly by the fireplace, except they were tapping their feet to “Gods Of War” instead…LOL. Plenty of somewhat...

Great show in Minneapolis last night. ~1800 capacity theater, every seat in the house had a great view. Bruce sounded amazing throughout, nailing every note he went for, even in stuff like . Was awesome to finally get a heaping helping of Chemical Wedding songs in person, too! I scanned...

Rate all songs on Somewhere In Time best to least good

@Dick Brucinson, there’s a whole section of the forum devoted to this sort of thing, so I’ll link to my SIT rating post from there. But since you’re technically asking for the answer in a different format, here it is: 1. Wasted Years (10/10) 2. Alexander The Great (10/10) 3. Sea Of Madness...

The third Blaze-sung Maiden album: lyrically a fusion of Silicon Messiah and BNW, but musically rooted in BNW?

They were on CMC International in the U.S. per Discogs, and I can’t find any indication that the release date was any different. AI search summaries say simultaneous world release, though I couldn’t find anything specifically calling out the March 23, 1998 release date for the U.S. version.
