    Nicko McBrain retires

I remember one particular(ly hilarious) bit where he was claiming that "the powers that be" were "preventing" him from releasing "masterpieces" which were better than anything ever done by some other group...

Simon Dawson is the new drummer

Well he seems very capable. Maiden are going to be in good hands with him.

    The Future Past Tour 2024

Not only that - the band, or at least Harris, kept insisting on playing everything as fast as possible. Sometimes you can hear Bruce trying to catch up to the band's speed and failing.

Put your initial thought after your first listen to The Mandrake Project to one sentence please.

One relatively decent song followed by a bunch of half baked demos. One of them ended up being exactly that.

Simon Dawson is the new drummer

His imdb profile says he directed the clips for Afraid to Shoot Strangers, Futureal and Virus.

Simon Dawson is the new drummer

The bit about the dad on facebook is kinda pathetic, it's more like he's going to miss part of the big paycheck his son would get. Simon ain't a "new guy" by any means, I'm sure he'll perform like the professional he is. If anything it would feel wrong and sad to go for a guy that's half Nicko's...

Simon Dawson is the new drummer

As I've said in another thread, them picking a new drummer won't take away they are in their mid 60s themselves, and that the likelihood that the next tour would be one of their last was very high even with Nicko in good health.

    Nicko McBrain retires

Roy Z has been raging and ranting about being "left out" by Bruce, especially when one of the songs they made for what would become TMP ended up in Book of Souls. The decision is not surprising. They wouldn't bring a guy young enough to be their son into the band and it's not like the other...

    Nicko McBrain retires

There's going to be pressure on his replacement, but there's people who are still mad that they replaced Paul with Bruce. A lot of people don't even like Jan! I think the possibility of having a healthy dose of setlist activity will probably help with the animosity they might face. But two...

Run For Your Lives! Setlist speculation thread

I wonder if they'll choose stuff they played during the Early Days tour. Like Another Life. Remember Tomorrow making a comeback would be very nice as well.

Maiden - Legacy of the Beast game Eddies

Well it lasted long enough for what it is a gacha style game. Still weird that they did an entire world tour with a big stage production for what it is a cheaply made mobile game.

    Nicko McBrain retires

You don't have to go that far. Compare If Eternity Should Fail to Eternity Has Failed. Although, to be fair, the latter's production fits a world of metal production where the drums sound like they came from a programmed synthetizer.

    Nicko McBrain retires

A one off deal like the Royal Marines one is much more manageable than a tour that has gigs a couple of times per week in the span of a year or two. I'm sure Nick could've worked hard enough to give a better performance in one gig from the current tour but that also meant to completely fuck up...

    Nicko McBrain retires

Most likely. Maiden plans years in advance and they had already kept Bruce's cancer and Nicko's stroke under wraps. The likely scenario is that when Nicko made the public announcement about his stroke, the decisions about him leaving were already made, and the current tour was more about him...

    Nicko McBrain retires

Jason Bonham sounds like a real, sensible idea - getting a new younger drummer in the band won't take away that the other band members are in their mid 60s and being fronted by a cancer survivor.

    Nicko McBrain retires

This is what I fear. Mangini and other drummers like Mikkey Dee are like a machinegun in the drums, Nicko's touch was very tasteful and easily adaptable for Maiden's proggier side.

RUN FOR YOUR LIVES WORLD TOUR (2025/2026)

A new drummer means the tour will probably extend, much like LOTB, and become a proper farewell tour as well. But I don't think the setlist will be touched too much - outside of the notable exception of Alexander, there's one seemingly iron cast rule when it comes to Maiden's sets, in that they...

    Nicko McBrain retires

When I saw Maiden live a couple of weeks ago I could feel Nicko struggling. Most bands, regardless of genre, see their drummer replaced once they reach a certain age. Playing drums is just too taxing. I think someone conducted a research and came to the conclusion that Blondie's drummer, during...
