    Bruce Dickinson

I'm actually not that surprised - sufficient theatrics and versatility on what is being asked for from his voice. I figured SSOASS might be in there, but that one also may be taxing.

    Metal with female vocals

I know this doesn't seem to go with the general vibe of the bands of this topic - but I've seen these awesome ladies kill in Brooklyn like a million times at this point. Heavy sludge with actually good growls: Also, Chelsea Wolfe keeps putting out some incredible stuff. Some Kyuss vibes here

    Official American Football Thread

Patriots are going to win the whole damn thing again. I don't have a dog in this race because my interest in the sport has dramatically waned over the years and the Yorks have ensured I'll never care about it again - but man does it seem boring and annoying that it's the same outcome like 33% of...

    Bruce Dickinson

Huh. Well that's really nice to hear! BRING EM BACK.

    Best Iron Maiden Covers

Not doing anything especially different, but a really nice cover of an unsung gem. Dude filling in for Bruce on the backing vocals is a guy named Michael Mills from a little Australian band called Toehider. I've been following this guy since we used to talk about progressive rock in the MySpace...

Classic cinema - thoughts and questions

Rope's one of my favorites - certainly gives a good sense of tension imposed by guilt, kinda like a theater play version of the Telltale Heart. Jimmy Stewart, as always, chews the entire scenery when given the opportunity - you can still find his teethmarks in the dining room table.

    Nordic Countries

I went to Iceland last year and had an absolute blast. Really wonderful and open culture, though I admit, there is a bit of an excess towards catering to tourists in a way I'm not used to in my travels - still, once you get out into the rugged and open beauty of this truly unique place, I...

    USA Politics

Some serious when the wild wind blows shit. Yeah, it was Hawaii on the statewide level, which shouldn't be surprising to anyone - other than the military base, there's a very small state with much to be desired in terms of infrastructure. I'm not sure how the delegation of responsibilities go...

Why did Steve Harris fire Clive Burr ?

I kinda agree with this. Definitely prefer Clive on Running Free. Definitely prefer Nicko on Phantom of the Opera for obvious reasons. Remember Tomorrow kinda has an appeal both ways - I think I'm going to give the edge to Nicko's because it accentuates the smoothness - but frankly at this stage...

The Book of Souls: General album discussion

This was a good record - and has aged over time better than The Final Frontier (though I still like half of a it quite a bit!) but the thing that I'm getting most from revisiting it is that Bruce and Janick are totally still composing at the height of their powers (at least their post-reunion...

    Empire Of The Clouds

Man Bruce really carried this album on his back didn't he? There are other good songs, but the best ones have his DNA all over it.

Why did Steve Harris fire Clive Burr ?

I always suspected this was less about specific errors and disagreements about mechanics and stylistic choices. Clive fit perfect to the old Maiden, and he wasn't gonna go in the direction with the fully operational steam train heading down the dork's path to odd time signatures we all hold so dear.

Was Somewhere Back in Time their best tour ever?

I can't really rank these all objectively, but of the tours I've been to, most assuredly yes. I still remember the parking lot, and the complete indifference to Lauren Harris, and my sense of anxiety when all of my thrash friends left trash everywhere. I met a girl I liked's older brother, and...

    USA Politics

Yep. Have grandparents who live on Maui who called me to tell me how much they love me, which was nice until I figured out the context. Already scrolling upthread to say that... we're not going to see eye to eye much on any of these subjects, but I will tell you that I have very little...

    New posters! Who are you?

I'll bite. 1) I'm Cody. 2) I grew up in a beach town in California, spent 8 years in San Francisco and have lived in Brooklyn for the last 5. 3) I'm 30. 4) Adrian Smith (or H, which I've never seen before lurking here, because you're all bonkers) 5) The British sure did a really good job in...
