Their voices work so well together. I’ve gained a much greater appreciation for Porcupine Tree and Wilson’s solo stuff mostly because of Opeth.

Sad to hear. Only 65, too; I guess it was pneumonia. Too young. Never knew he was a Chicago native, either. He played for a lot of teams… 25 seasons! That’s unheard of today.

Ghost Reveries is beloved by almost all Opeth fans, and it's not difficult to understand why. The album is chock full of meaty riffs, slithering progressive sections, sinister growls, and heartfelt clean pieces. It has two of Opeth's best tracks and a bunch of other really good stuff. 8...

I believe he wrote the song about his grandmother’s death. I love the live version where it ends with an ass-kicking Fredrik solo.

As you can see from @Mosh post, I ranked Damnation at number one. I adore this album. It gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling inside, which isn’t something normally associated with Opeth, but I don’t care. It also gives me a cold, isolated feeling inside, which us Opeth fans crave. There’s just...

OPETH DISCOGRAPHY RANKING GAME - Still Life wins!

While Deliverance is mostly overshadowed by its mellower and stronger sister album, it is a solid record in its own right. It contains only one song that I'm not a big fan of, while the others fit right into the classic Still Life/Blackwater Park sound. My rankings: 5. Wreath. No surprise here...

Agreed. I would’ve preferred Trumpets of Jericho or even Gates of Urizen in the top 10.

I’ve been very excited for this game, but I’m going to wait a bit until the bugs are patched. I give the developers a ton of credit for making a game of this scope during an actual war, though; I heard that none of the buildings were procedurally generated. Pumped to play it!

    Opeth

It’s the Opeth musical none of us knew we needed. Right now §6 is my jam; the solo section is straight out of a Symphony X song. This is one of the most progressive albums I’ve ever heard. My only complaint is that I wish it was 10 minutes longer, as the songs are so jam-packed with content and...

Best album since Ghost Reveries in my book.

Got Star Wars Outlaws on sale after waiting a few months due to all the reported bugs. Having fun with it so far; I really like that it’s a “scoundrel” type of game without lightsabers as I’ve wanted a SW game like that for a while. I’m still on the first open world planet but I can’t wait to...

OPETH DISCOGRAPHY RANKING GAME - Still Life wins!

I’ve always seen Watershed as a bit of a polarizing album, as it began the period of random out-of-place interludes being strewn about each song like they were going out of style. Nothing on this album sucks, but very little of contains the best Opeth has to offer. From worst to best: 7...

OPETH DISCOGRAPHY RANKING GAME - Still Life wins!

I greatly prefer Morningrise to both Orchid and My Arms, Your Hearse. This album is the high point of Oldpeth – there’s just very little to dislike here. The band expanded on the formula from their debut, crafting the same style of massive songs, but with tastier meat. From weakest to strongest...

OPETH DISCOGRAPHY RANKING GAME - Still Life wins!

After recently listening to it a few times, Pale Communion is probably a better record than My Arms, Your Hearse. It’s probably better than Watershed, too. But if I had ranked it any higher it would have beaten Morningrise, and we can’t have that! There’s not a filler track on Nupeth’s...

OPETH DISCOGRAPHY RANKING GAME - Still Life wins!

My Arms, Your Hearse is a pretty polarizing record. This growly ghost story is easily Opeth’s most death metally effort, and in my opinion (as of this writing) the weakest of all their growly ones. Maybe. The wall-of-sound songwriting does little for me, but bits and pieces here and there still...

Bruce Dickinson Solovivor 2024 - "BOOK OF THEL" WINS!

Book of Thel is hands down Bruce’s best song. This is crazy. Tears is a top 10 but not a top 5 in my book.

I'm gonna need to give MAYH some more time. This is one of those albums that's really hard for me to digest unless its in full. Yes yes YES. The only bass part that stands out to me on MAYH is the end of The Amen Corner... I think. There's a lot beneath the surface on the two Oldpeth albums...

I am not anti-trans, but what I am is pro-common sense. Bikinis are for women, and women don’t have penises. Outside of some extremely rare situations, there are two sexes – male and female. People are free to “transition” phenotypically, but genotypically they will always be what their sex...
