I'm very entertained by the fact that Onhell's main argument is that American Idol singers don't have a live band backing them. I mean you'd think you might, you know, know what you're talking about.  But here we are.

I just assumed this was the case for the majority of people but I guess not.

I'd be all for them playing TFF the entire way through, but I'd also be for them advertising the show as such, just like Rush is doing with their current tour. That would pretty much invalidate the "casual fan" argument re: what they want to hear. On the other hand, I totally believe this...

There are countless other people on this board that have explained it better than I could, but longer songs does not equal more intricate.  I'd be interested to hear what you feel is intricate on any of TFF's long songs.

Name one place on the internet that's going to cover Maiden MORE than they already do, if they hit #1 on the charts. Aside from a "Hey, Maiden hit #1 this week" blurb.

It's just one of those things where even the most slobbering of apologists aren't going to be able to come up with one reason why NOT to do this.

Yeah, I keep forgetting that half the board is not in the US.  Let me rephrase that - Maiden will have zero extra media exposure from reaching #1 in the US.  Mainly because next week they won't still be #1.

Except that none of that applies to heavy metal acts.

On the plus side, you have to sell a hell of a lot less albums to make #1 than you did, say, 10 or 15 years ago.

Maybe Bruce should have promised to play Alexander The Great next tour if the CD goes #1 the first week? Otherwise who cares where it charts?
