    Phantom of the Opera

This song really is fantastic, and quintessential early Maiden. The crap production, in this case, actually added to the heaviness and the ferocity of the song. Steve's bass is particularly on fire here. The band, in every lineup, sounds like they're on fire every time they play this song. An...

    Your Maiden blasphemy

It's easy to see Bruce's point, and he's right about the comparative value of the production. As a collection of songs though, Killers suffers from being made up in large part of material they thought wasn't good enough for the debut.
  3. Viperlord

    Wrathchild

A strong, heavy, hard-hitting rocker. Not terribly complex, but I like it quite a lot for what it is. 8/10.
  4. Viperlord

    Another Life

Very interesting sound and an atypical vibe to this song. For whatever reason, I kind of like it. 7/10
  5. Viperlord

    Murders in the Rue Morgue

Thankfully, the song has held up for me. Still 9/10.
  6. Viperlord

    Innocent Exile

6/10. A few nice parts, but it doesn't add up to much on the whole and fails to leave much of an impression.
  7. Viperlord

    Prodigal Son

Very atypical, but very nice song. LC said much of what I would have said in praise of it, and I agree with his ranking at a strong 8/10.
  8. Viperlord

    Purgatory

I still enjoy the energy and aggression on this track quite a lot. 8/10
  9. Viperlord

    Twilight Zone

5/10. Pretty mediocre overall, IMO; Paul's vocals don't do it for me here.
  10. Viperlord

    The Ides of March

I'm giving this one a 6/10 now. It's nice and inoffensive and works as an intro, but it is not stand-out in any way.

Iron Maiden songs that you flat out dislike?

This is getting progressively (hue) sillier. Even granting that Steve solo epics are generally less complex (this is not always a bad thing for the songs; I think Greater Good of God and Wild Wind, in terms of what they're trying to accomplish via storytelling, benefit from Steve's approach...
  12. Viperlord

    Drifter

5/10. Rather meh as a studio song. Edit: Another listen made me realize how bored I was with the song by the mid point, and while the solos temporarily bring it back up, another repetitious "sing it, sing it, sing it along" really does pretty much sink it. 3/10
  13. Viperlord

    Killers

9/10. Still a wonderful classic track and one of Maiden's best, but not quite flawless enough for the ten.
  14. Viperlord

    Genghis Khan

Like with Transylvania, I am changing this one to 8/10, though I consider it the slightly better song due to the atmosphere.
  15. Viperlord

    Transylvania

I'm going to change my rating of this one to an 8. Nothing against the track mind you, it's still great, but I don't think I can rank it with other songs I'm going to give nine.

Iron Maiden songs that you flat out dislike?

Personally, I think that is a ludicrous and inaccurate characterization of Nicko's performance on recent albums. Yes, clearly nothing shows evolution of skill better than just doing the same thing over and over again. Some of us are, clearly.

Iron Maiden songs that you flat out dislike?

    1. Again, this is purely your opinion. This is not an established fact, and it's not even an opinion which people other than you generally seem to have. 2. Either there's absolute millions of hardcore fans, or the casual fans are deluded enough to keep buying the new material, judging by the...

    The Red And The Black

Given the fact that it wasn't your post I was replying to, you know perfectly well it wasn't addressed to you. You are burning a strawman here, I don't have a problem with criticizing Steve songs. I don't like To Tame A Land and Alexander the Great nearly as much as most here seem to, for...

    Piece of Mind vs. Powerslave

Powerslave is definitely my favorite of the two. Piece of Mind would probably be in the middle of my ranking somewhere, whereas Powerslave is top three or thereabouts for me.
  20. Viperlord

    The Red And The Black

Personally I love For The Greater Good of God and When The Wild Wind Blows; they're both 9/10s at last listen rather than 10/10s, but I'm quite picky about giving 10s, so that's fine. (Yes I have a list of ratings which I should get around to actually voting and posting when the new polls come...
