    Blaze Bayley

I think that's the biggest article Metal Hammer has given him since the release of Silicon Messiah (they rated it 5/5, just like Brave New World).

The Wicker Man - another inspiration?

No, Blaze said that he recorded a demo of Blood Brothers in 1997 (and it was probably Steve's own recording). The Mercenary, Dream of Mirrors and The Nomad were the other tracks used. The Wicker Man on the other hand, was written by Adrian, Bruce and Steve in 1999.

The Wicker Man - another inspiration?

Another version of that riff is also played during the verses and the solo in Futureal, which Steve wrote alone (while Blaze composed the vocal parts). I actually think that part inspired Adrian, playing Futureal during the Ed Hunter Tour, and not the other tracks. :)

The X Factor: individual album judgement by yours truly

I think 2 A.M. is also inspired by Blaze working in a hotel as night porter during the 80's, and some of his feelings during that time.

    Blaze Bayley

Then at his own shows this year, he played 10 songs from his current band, 4 songs from the BLAZE days, and just 2 Maiden tracks (Man on the Edge and Futureal), so it's not like he is turning into D'iAnno 2.0 fully...

    Blaze Bayley

At festivals it's the Maiden set now days usually. Perhaps that's what promoters are asking for. He has actually done a lot of festivals in recent years, and perhaps it's easier to get a gig if it's mainly an Iron Maiden set, and the money is probably decent. It's allowing him to pay his...

    Maiden's Biggest Missed Opportunities Live

In the beginning I think all of them were positive: https://bravewords.com/news/nicko-mcbrain-reflects-on-blaze-bayley-s-time-fronting-iron-maiden-there-were-nights-when-he-sang-his-cotton-socks-off-and-it-was-brilliant-and-there-were-a-lot-of-other-nights-where-it-wasn-t-so-hot-video

Ghost of the Navigator Brave New World Dance of Death These Colours Don't Run The Final Frontier (but skip Satellite 15) The Book of Souls. Could add If Eternity Should Fail as well, but I think that's for a Bruce solo tour.

    The Future Past tour 2023

I think more famous metal bands like Megadeth can tour on their own now and therefore don't need Maiden these days, but in 1999 things were different. Also Dio had it rough back in 1998, and followed Maiden with Blaze around North America.

I can post an outtake from Blaze's biography tomorrow, where it is detailed.

Moments you thought Maiden were ridiculous and embarrassing

The band not playing an encore at Rio de Janeiro 1998, despite an enthusiastic audience. The rest of the band also went to the dressing room in this moment without informing Blaze that the show was over. That was just mean.

    The Mercenary

Listening to this track with studio headhones at the moment, and I can hear that there's a keyboard added in the background during the pre-chorus and chorus, just a nice little detail. It gives a different texture to the sound. It kicks in at 0:34 after the first verse ends.

Maybe that Sandberg custom strat had noiseless single coils? Not uncommon. Fender has had those since the 90's in some guitars.
