Watershed’s growly tracks are top-notch. Heir Apparent is on my Opeth Top Ten, while Lotus Eater’s bizarre disjointed weirdness makes me smile every time (that funky synth part is peak Opeth). Hessian Peel also hits me in the feels with that groovy first half and that sad riff and that hilarious...
“You can tell a lot about a person by how they react when someone dies.” - Charlie Kirk, 2016
“Assumption is the mother of all fuck-ups.” - Confucius (probably)
This assassination has made me sick. Regardless of how you felt about his beliefs, Charlie was a debater - not a Nazi or Putin or a...
Egypt is from V, which is a concept album about pseudo-Atlantean mythology. Fantastic album which differs from their post-Odyssey material in that it’s their most keyboard-laden and progressive.
Honestly I recommend just giving the entire discography a listen when you have the time. They’re...
Completely agreed about Escapist. Excellent tune that could’ve easily replaced the clunkers Whoever Brings the Night and For the Heart I Once Had. But Sahara and The Islander are killer tracks.
Have you heard their earlier material? I recommend The Odyssey, The Divine Wings of Tragedy, and V...
You accuse me of this and I accuse you of this. We’re going around in circles and it isn’t going to change.
I can agree with this.
There isn’t much info about this that I can find. Three critically injured (including the assailant), one with minor injuries. Hopefully they’ll survive and the...
Good lord, this is why I can barely stomach looking at this thread, yet alone posting here. It’s like the Death Star of echo chambers.
You make it sound as if I’m talking about the unemployed overweight rainbow protestor crowd opening up a “Take Out Charlie Kirk” GoFundMe. I’m referring to the...
Ever wonder how the left can go around calling conservatives “fascists” when their fellow leftists are the ones shooting people?
Anyone who celebrates Charlie Kirk’s death is absolutely subhuman. The beauty of America is that we, as adults, can disagree and still be civil with each other. Kirk...
Repentance is quite weak, but I think Prophets of War is decent (but meh compared to the rest of the album).
TDEN is more comical than anything, as DT hadn’t really tried such a cheesy concept until that point. Constant Motion is fun but definitely wouldn’t make any top DT list of mine.
The...
Dark Passion Play is a better Nightwish album than Paradise Lost is a Symphony X album, but hot damn if the latter isn’t a banger. Not a filler track on it, while DPP has several.
Voted for both and that’s it. Megadeth’s and Iced Earth’s efforts were both solid, but neither touch these two...
For the survival horror crowd, has anyone played Cronos: The New Dawn? Having fun with it so far. Think Dead Space meets Resident Evil with more paranormal elements. The game is hard if you’re not used to this style, though. Enemies are unforgiving and resources are quite limited, and there’s no...
Pretty good set from the guys to kick off the North American “Final Farewell to Underworld 10 Years Later Acting Like It’s Our Magnum Opus” tour:

Glad to see at least one surprise in there, and several...
Voting for Maiden on a Maiden forum is so cliche, but they truly deserve it here. The only other album I voted for was Tool’s, because while it’s decidedly weaker than the two albums that sandwich it, there’s three insanely good tracks on it and a handful of pretty good ones, too.
Primo...
I love TLITD. Even though it doesn’t reach the highs of Ktulu or Orion, it’s a crushing piece with a beautiful middle section and solo (by Hetfield, I believe).
On the other hand, I’ve never cared for Anesthesia… even as a bass player. It bores me to tears.
Maiden’s bite-size instrumentals in...
Deadwing is a more consistent album than Ghost Reveries, but both have some heavyweights on them. Harlequin Forest and Ghost of Perdition are monsters, but there’s something to be said about the equally massive Arriving Somewhere But Not Here. Both albums have a few...
Anyone here ever played System Shock 2? Picked up the remaster and I’m loving it. I do wish that Nightdive had done a full remake like they did with the original System Shock, but that’s a minor gripe. Definitely a game for anyone who likes the immersive BioShock-type exploration-based RPG/shooters.
Train of Thought deserves this year as it’s easily one of DT’s most consistent albums. Dance of Death has three outstanding songs, a few decent ones, and a whole heap of filler (I go back and forth on whether or not this or Final Frontier is Maiden’s weakest reunion album, but it might be this).
I don’t think Maiden or Maiden-adjacent albums should be included at all, due to obvious expected bias.
Re: Six Degrees; it’s an album with very high peaks (Glass Prison, Blind Faith, and Great Debate) but very low valleys (most of Disappear, most of the title track). It was my introductory...
This is exactly how I feel about everything I’ve ever heard by the guy. There might be a cool musical section here or there, but none of his stuff has ever clicked with me.
