I think I called it very soon after the tour was announced that from IM to FotD was always meant to just mean "we will definitely play Iron Maiden and Fear of the Dark, don't worry" with absolutely no guarantees offered concerning if every album gets representation. I was actually slightly...
I do think this is going to be a winning setlist for next year, seems like the reactions on Twitter to even Seventh Son and similar are incredibly positive. Makes me also think the screen was a knowing choice to get more flexibility in the visuals and be able to get 90% of the same effect as...
I'd be incredibly surprised if we didn't start seeing a lot more Jacksons as the tour progresses, seems like he was practically forcing himself to play the Lados instead of his usual guitars with how often he had them on.
I don't mind WY closing since I love the song, and I love they're finally treating it like the staple it should've been, but I did think it's started to wear down in a weird way where it just doesn't come across nearly as good as it used to when it was rarer. Might be Bruce's strained voice...
I do think it's kinda funny how we ended up exactly where I figured we would: a hits setlist like no other, with one song that hasn't been played in quite a while and a couple of unexpected picks and missing exactly one of the proper hits. Which is fine. But the stage show, I dunno what the deal...
I really can't help but wonder if they were gonna play it anyway, why not just put Aces High as the first song so Bruce has a snowball's chance in hell of singing it? I don't think Murders needs to be the opener, in fact it could've well been the encore opener instead.
Bring Your Daughter would've worked great in that spot as an audience participation song, but just like with Infinite Dreams I'm pretty sure they simply hate that fucking song and all of the album. They've had plenty of chances to play something from NPFTD, but they never did.
I think the one thing that really stands out in this set is that they're still not playing TETMD. Maybe they should've rehearsed it just in case and replace Aces High with it next show onward.
Also, they fucking did the song with a giant fucking Spitfire hovering above them. How the hell is this a bigger, better show than that? It's absurd they're so insistent on it.
It's just kinda funny that the 80s spanning tour with a seeming early days focus in the promo art is literally just Powerslave Again Again. Again, they did a few more things that are nice, but did we really need all four?
This is starting to feel a bit too Somewhere Back in Time for my tastes, I can't lie. At least we got Seventh Son and Killers to add a bit of variety I guess.
There were also a few guitar lead fills in Rime that I think they only ever played on the original recording, very cool to hear. Definitely wanna go over these with better audio and footage, so hopefully people continue to not care about the no phones thing!
I'm a fucking moron, I've been counting the setlist song count wrong for God knows how many songs now because the official Twitter started the count from Ides rather than Murders. God damn it all.
